We recently connected with Vivian Facio and have shared our conversation below.
Vivian , so great to have you with us and thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with the community. So, let’s jump into something that stops so many people from going after their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. We’d love to hear about how you dealt with that and persisted on your path.
I believe that coming from a small town, I was already used to haters and nay-sayers. I grew up with a lot of closed minded people and that only drove me to think bigger and prove that we can actually be someone in life despite of where we grew up in. I always had this huge vision growing up of how I would one day be successful and people would tell me to think of a “plan b” or an alternative because that was too grandiose for me to accomplish. I fed off those comments, and they only pushed me to prove them wrong and do it for myself and family.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I currently own Sculpted By Vee where I perform non invasive body sculpting as well as teeth whitening. I’m actively trying to grow in knowledge and further my career. I love what I do because it helps people jumpstart their healthier life styles or even work during their weight loss journeys. I think this is a great way to work on what I’m most passionate about which is motivational speaking. I’m daily motivating my clients and friends to be the best versions of themselves. And being that I push my clients, and motivate them into a healthier life style, gives me the opportunity to practice on just that.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Great qualities I carry, is I’m very open minded and understanding. Being open minded helps me understand a client or any individual without judgement. I was bullied my entire teenage years and even in my early twenties. That helped me build thick skin but also understand those around me without having to judge, but instead guide them on how they can be better. As the years have passed, I have learned more and more. And I have learned the hard way to not easily trust everyone because not everyone has the best interest in you. I have gone through many obstacles including breaking off a lot of what I thought were friendships. As much as that hurt me, I had to keep pushing and not allow that to stop me. For anyone that is early on or is just starting out, no matter what they are starting, my best advice is to go for it. Even if you’re scared, you’re leaving people behind, or it’s starting to feel like you’re not doing enough, that’s when you need to work harder the most. Overcoming those obstacles will only fuel you to overcome more and more that come your way.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
I got out of prison a year ago actually. I was released of BOP property March 23,2023. I got out hearing alot of negative comments of how I was going to have to survive off minimum wage and how I had to give up a lot of dreams because my felony wouldn’t allow it. If the “me” of 4 years ago would have heard those comments, I would go off and try to explain why I would accomplish things or have to “prove them wrong”. Anyone that knows me knows that I was a very angry person and felt the need to fight back to every situation. Given my legal situation, I learned that not everything deserves a reaction. My biggest area in growth was that. Learning that sometimes even though I disagree with the treatment I received, and the comments that were said, they didn’t deserve a reaction. Instead I remained resilient, shared my story, and accomplished all my goals in silence. I move in silence so that I know for sure no one but myself can stop me.
