Meet Vynce Pham

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Vynce Pham. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Vynce below.

Vynce, we are so happy that our community is going to have a chance to learn more about you, your story and hopefully even take in some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Let’s start with self-care – what do you do for self-care and has it had any impact on your effectiveness?
As in any profession, being a DJ has it’s stress filled moments and chaotic days. What’s important is how you handle them and come out with a smile knowing that the issue(s) were resolved. But these instances can definitely take their toll on your mind, body and spirit. For me, it’s essential to do other activities to not only avoid burn out, but to reset myself for when the next occurrence happens. This way, I’m always ready to overcome them, no matter what it is. With me, it’s all about your outlook.

On a regular basis, I try and head to the ocean and surf with friends and just relax. Living in Southern California is the perfect place for that. There’s something about being on the water, catching waves and laughing with good people. It’s also a great place and time for me to decompress and reflect on past events and formulate how I plan to learn and improve on myself, my skills and see things from different angles.

I also love to do adventurous things like skydiving, skiing and paragliding. Releasing endorphins while you’re in the air or going fast down a groomed trail is like no other feeling! It just takes your mindset to another level and brings you to a state of pure bliss. For me, pushing myself out of my comfort zone is always something I strive to do.

When my mind or body is too tense, I often turn to kickboxing, which I’ve been doing for the past 23 years. Being able to release the negative energy in the form of punches and kicks is amazing! And it’s also a great workout. Keeping fit is crucial if you want to sustain any sort of symmetry with life and everything it throws your way.

And with all of that, I always make sure to get regularly scheduled massages, chiropractic adjustments and even acupuncture, whenever possible. Our bodies do so much for us, we need and should take great care of it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am the primary DJ and owner of Music Phreek DJ & Lighting Services. I absolutely love what I do. I mainly am in the wedding industry, but also cater to private and corporate events as well. Basically any clients who need music and entertainment are whom I service. What’s most gratifying for me is being a part of my clients’ special day/occasion. There’s something about using music to bring people together and seeing everyone having fun dancing, singing and celebrating!

Recently, I’ve added partners on who bring an added level of service to my business. In addition to DJ services, we also offer LED market lights/uplights/custom gobos, draping (black velvet and satin white), photo booths (360 and mirrored options), cold sparklers and fog geysers/fog machines. We aim to be able to service most if not all of the needs of our clients for their event needs when it comes to audio/visual services.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three most important qualities, skills and areas of knowledge you can have coming into this business is humility, a desire to learn and always striving to be and do better with each event that comes your way. I am fanatical about researching new products, skill sets and ideas from other fellow DJs and wedding vendors. When you open up your mind, the possibilities for your success increase exponentially!

How would you describe your ideal client?
My ideal client(s) is/are someone who wants their event to be memorable as well as successful. I tend to gravitate towards fun and outgoing people so having that in common is always a plus. I always listen and even try to offer additional suggestions to make their event even better than what they originally envisioned. So having an open mind when it comes to the planning is also a plus. My goal is always to have them get me what I need well before their event happens so I can do my job and allow them to enjoy it with their families and friends!
