We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful WALT-LEON. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with WALT-LEON below.
Hi WALT-LEON, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My work ethic comes from my upbringing. I come from a family that makes and allows no excuses. When I was younger I worked for both of my grandfathers. My Dad’s dad only had a middle school education but has owned multiple restaurants and made a living out of doing what he was passionate about. Then My Mom’s Dad had a construction business and a farm that he would have me work on as well. I would help with the farm and with building houses on the construction sites. Both of my parents are extremely hard workers and now I am a husband and a father myself. When there are other people relying on you to get the job done, you get the job done.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My name is WALT-LEON. I am a Christian Hip-Hop artist from Hampton Va. My main focus is to help the lost souls be able to find christ. So many people have been hurt in church, hurt by church going people and it has left a bad taste in their mouths. It is my purpose to reach those people who are outside of the church and let them know that I’ve been exactly where they are. People will let you down time and time again but God didn’t. Also it’s my purpose and mission to connect with those people that the old school church misses. Sometimes people can be too pushy and it can push someone away that is in a sensitive state. So I try to meet people where they are, encourage them and show them that it is ok and you don’t have to be perfect in order to fulfill your God given purpose. Through music and content I can deliver the same message within 3 minutes that it takes someone else 45 minutes to deliver. My Company’s name is TouchLife Enterprise where the motto is “See A Life, Touch A Life, Change A Life.” The whole goal is to make sure whenever you come in contact with someone, that they leave you in a better condition then when they first came in contact with you. What started as just music has expanded into a clothing, personal training and skill development for sports, being a published author, poet and public speaker. I just recently released a new song entitled “I’m Blessed” featuring Sellz Muzik. Also we have started something entitled “Lunch On Me” where we honor fathers for being active in their children’s lives, showing up consistently and being that positive example that their children need, no matter how hard life gets.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
First and most importantly I would say keep God first. With him, every and all things are possible. second I would say be persistent. Just because something is hard doesn’t mean that you quit. Keep going, it will get easier and you will continue to grow and meet the right people along the way. you never know when your gift is going to be needed. the seed must be planted in order for it to produce fruit. If you quit before you start watering the fruit then you will never get to enjoy the fruits of your labor. one step per day but the end of the year is 365 steps, but if you never take that step then you will be stuck in the same position, year after year. Third piece of advice is to believe in yourself. When God gave you the vision, he only gave it to you. Others may not see your vision or understand what you are trying to do until you make them believe by showing them. So believe in yourself and don’t let the nay sayers stop you from pursuing whatever it is that you are passionate about.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
My number one obstacle is balance. Balancing family time with running a business at this level. Without thinking I can just work work work and enjoy doing what I do, but I have to make sure I am present for my wife and my three children. So turning down performances and other engagements in order to be at my children’s games, award ceremonies and just simply have quality family time has been a challenge. I want my children to always be able to say “Daddy was there.”
