Meet Walter Sanders

We recently connected with Walter Sanders and have shared our conversation below.

Walter, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Growing up I was always interested in music. Starting with my first drum set at five years of age. My father was a singer and Sax player. By the age of twelve I was an accomplished Drummer, Piano/Organ Player. My fav. entertainer besides my father was James Brown. At the age of eight I was able to see James Brown in person for the first time, accompanied by my parents and my neighbor Mr. Garner who worked at the concert hall. As we were on the way to the concert hall Mr. Garner told he had a surprise for me, he knew that James Brown was my fav professional entertainer. When we arrived at the concert hall Mr. Garner ask to come with him he wanted me to see something. We to the opening pass security to a closed door, he said knock on the door which I did the began to open and jaw dropped, standing there with his hand reached out to shake mine was Mr. James Brown. I was speechless. We didn’t have much time to talk as he was about to go on stage. Mr Brown guided me to where the stage was I was offered a chair off stage and was able to sat there through the whole concert. A night I never forget. After it was over he gave me an autographed picture. He told me he understood I wanted to be an entertainer and no matter what never give up your dreams. And i never did. Thank you Mr. Brown!

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I started off playing drums and piano/organ which led me to writing songs and playing piano jazz with Mr. Don Albert, trumpeter and bandleader, I was fifteen at the time. At twenty or so I moved around, playing here and there. Music was my love but I had to earn, by this time I had a family to take care of. I started to scout out and manage music groups, and started holding promotions around town, and eventually on the road. At that point I started a promotion company “BlackStar Entertainment, bringing together and mentoring local groups. As the years passed I changed the name of my promotion company to Urban Underground Alliance Entertainment, with focus on underground Hip-Hop Music. I eventually bought a lesser know Hip-Hop record label and renamed it “9mSyndicate Records”. Using the contacts I worked with over the years we were able to put together the first release “The Platinum Project Series” the series consisted of three separate releases over a seven year stretch. I’m very proud of the work that was done at “9mSyndicate Records” after ten years, I sold BlackStar Entertainment along with the label and changed the name of my promotion company to Alliance Global Companies. From that point I launched my first venture into the internet, an online radio station “Aee Hot 210 Radio” which was the stepping stone for my media company now known as “Alliance Global Digital Group” an Alliance Global Company.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Perseverance is very important. When you start your journey you never know what obstacles are ahead so no matter what never give up your dreams.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
As an early musician, I would have to say their support in my decision to become a musician was the most impactful. Although we were not well off they managed to pay for a drum set, a piano and lessons, and later on an organ. Now I’m an accomplished player of all three instruments. Thanks Mom and Dad.
