Meet Wayne Brantley

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Wayne Brantley. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Wayne below.

Wayne, so great to have you on the platform and excited to have you share your wisdom with our community today. Communication skills often play a powerful role in our ability to be effective and so we’d love to hear about how you developed your communication skills.
I played sports my entire life and then coached high school football for thirty years. I developed my ability to communicate effectively by being a leader. A great leader must be a great communicator. If the people you are leading are not 100% sure about what their job is then they are doomed to failure. I learned a lot from trial and error over the years. One really important thing that I learned about communication was to be clear and concise and to always be honest.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am the managing partner of Wise Guys Historical Tours in Savannah, Georgia. I not only manage the business, I also give tours of historic Savannah!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
It is really important to be an effective communicator, to set a positive example, and display confidence to your team.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
Good to Great by Jim Collins. I learned that good is the biggest enemy of great. We often settle for good instead of going deeper and becoming great. I also learned to get the right people on the bus first. Then you can move them to the right seat!
