We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Wendy Alcala a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Wendy , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I got my resilience from facing life challenges head-on. I didn’t let the bad things in life define me and get stronger because of them.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Hey! I’m Wendy Alcala — content creator, storyteller, and your go-to girl for all things beauty, fashion, and lifestyle. I’ve been creating content that’s fun, honest, and a little extra (in the best way) for a few years now, and what started as a creative outlet has turned into something so much bigger.
What I love most about what I do is being able to connect with other women and share the things that actually make life better — whether it’s a skincare product that actually works, a budget-friendly outfit that makes you feel like a million bucks, or just those real-life moments we all go through. I try to keep things as real and relatable as possible, because I think that’s what people connect with most.
Right now I’m focused on expanding what I do — launching digital products, working on some really fun brand collabs, and diving more into travel content (because what’s better than looking good and living your best life somewhere cute?). I’m also leaning into bilingual content to connect more deeply with my community and celebrate where I come from.
There’s so much more in the works, and I’m honestly just excited to keep growing, creating, and showing up — for myself and for the people who’ve been on this journey with me.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, I’d say the three biggest things that really helped me on this journey were: being resourceful, staying consistent (even when it wasn’t cute), and learning how to genuinely connect with people.
Being resourceful was everything — especially in the beginning when I didn’t have fancy equipment or a full team. I had to figure things out on my own, whether it was editing a video on my phone or pitching myself to brands. If you wait for the “perfect setup,” you’ll miss out on so many opportunities. Just start with what you have.
Consistency was huge, even when I felt like nobody was watching. There were definitely moments where I doubted myself or felt stuck, but showing up anyway — even when the views were low or the ideas weren’t flowing — is what kept the momentum going. You never know what’s going to hit, so don’t overthink it. Just keep creating.
And lastly, learning how to connect — whether that’s with your audience, brands, or other creators — is a game-changer. People can feel when you’re being real. The more I leaned into being myself (flaws and all), the more my community grew.
My advice: don’t wait to feel “ready.” Be curious, be consistent, and be yourself. And don’t be afraid to mess up — some of my best lessons came from the cringiest moments.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Yes, I’m always open to collaborating! I love working with brands, creatives, and fellow storytellers who align with my vibe — think beauty, fashion, lifestyle, wellness, and anything that empowers women to show up confidently and live well. I’m especially excited about partnerships that feel authentic and allow for creative freedom. If it’s fun, intentional, and speaks to my community, I’m all in.
I’m also open to collaborating with other creators — especially Latinas or women building their own thing — whether it’s content collabs, events, or just supporting each other behind the scenes. I truly believe there’s room for all of us to win.
