We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Wendy Bethea. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Wendy below.
Wendy, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
Everyone has a story or idea built within them. Being different is what motivates me to do and build something helpful and meaningful. Everyone has gifts and talents to think outside the box and persistently pursue the very thing I’m good at or do great. I make that my passion and give it all that I got. Mostly move in silence to cultivate, create, nurture the idea. I’m not afraid to take risk on what I believe. With pose I hold my head up high, dress for the part, believe in myself and my idea. You never know what other opportunities or if your idea will take flight if you never give it a chance.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I have three Master’s degrees and I am the bookkeeper at Cape Fear Regional Theaters. I am MsBs Creations, crochet items, I am a Spoken Word artist believing in change with my writings and experiences. Newly CEO of PETNIMBUS a pet app with a connected card strictly for pet care from Saving money for anything the pet needs. The app is in phase 2 and prayerfully will launch next year. I enjoy engaging in all my projects and watching them come to life. I also have two books that will be coming out next year, “Empty Nest” and “Life Presented” poetry books.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Gifts to create, love for reading, and a creative mind. Having a great support system to tell you the truth and to encourage, motivate, and pray for you to keep going and see it through.
The best advice I can give is to never give up, you never know where your ideas or creations will take you. Never stop learning and L is not for loss it means what lesson did you learn. Revamp, refresh and get back at it.
How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
The economy is the biggest challenge, making enough to pursue all that I would like to accomplish and make a living is the challenge.
