We recently connected with Wendy Holland and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Wendy, great to have you with us today and excited to have you share your wisdom with our readers. Over the years, after speaking with countless do-ers, makers, builders, entrepreneurs, artists and more we’ve noticed that the ability to take risks is central to almost all stories of triumph and so we’re really interested in hearing about your journey with risk and how you developed your risk-taking ability.
I developed my ability to take risk through my up bringing. I have to older siblings who are successful in their field. What I’ve learned through their journey is that that they had to take risks to get to where they are. So that influenced me to always be open to taking risk.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a licensed cosmetologist. I’ve been in the hair industry for the past 13 years. I own a small business called Selfishly Spoiled Hair Studio. Where I specialize in natural and relaxed hair needs.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three things that I feel helped me on my journey was being a risk taker, being open to change, and always being open to learning. Advice that I would give to individuals on their journey would be to believe in yourself and follow through. Sometimes we have ideas and we are scared to put them into action however action cures fear. We never know the outcome but if you continue to move forward with the thing you want, everything will fall into place. I believe that self development will help with keeping you mentally tough to follow through and to believe in yourself more.
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
Right now, we are in the process of wanting to expand the brand. The challenge has been just keeping up with all the tasks and things that need to be done to help with expanding.. So right now, my approach to help make this process to go smoother is to slow down to speed up. Sometimes I can feel that I have so much to do, but I’ve learned that if I slow down and and focus on what is most important to least, it can give me more mental clarity on how we can get things accomplished.
