Meet Wendy Kushel

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Wendy Kushel. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Wendy below.

Hi Wendy, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

Initially when I first started my business in 2020 I thought I had confidence. I think I did to an extent but overtime as I jumped over hurdles, solved problems and learned more skills (production, manufacturing, marketing and business) my confidence and self esteem increased. Also, since I began my entrepreneurial journey I listen to successful entrepreneurs tell there stories and those stories give me confidence in myself.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

At Wendala’s Sugar Scrubs, my motto is “Live. Laugh. Scrub.”—and I mean it. These words capture my spirit of life., I believe in living life fully and taking care of your body along the way. Authenticity is at the heart of my brand. My products are real, made with natural and many organic ingredients that do exactly what they promise. I truly believe that I have perfect pitch in the realm of the olfactory system, which allows me to make exquisitely balanced unique scents, This sets my products apart. In addition, my proprietary formula is a combination of high quality materials, that are crafted with essential oils and fragrances, leaving your skin irresistibly soft. When new customers experience my scrubs, they’re amazed by the genuine scents and the incredible softness they feel on their skin. Wendala’s is proudly based in Bluffton, South Carolina.
Incredibly excited about two new product lines- Wendala’s Shave Scrubs and Wendala’s Lip Scrubs.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Developing Problem Solving Skills-realizing that problems will always arise and how one deals with these obstacles is vey important. Temper tantrums are not a good idea.

Learning how to use Canva has been huge for me. I do have a wonderful branding/graphics person but there are tons of marketing materials, shelf display items and new product labels that I can design myself.

I taught myself how to use editing software (an app called Splice) so I can make quality engaging social media posts.

As far as advice I would say – pick a goal and work toward it-even if you can only dedicate 10-15 minutes per day. Moving forward will get you there.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?

Although How I Built This by Guy Raz is a book I listen to his podcast regularly. Each episode Guy Raz interviews a successful entrepreneur. Their stories are inspiring because they talk about their journeys going all the way back to the very beginning.

Not quitting and self belief are the two most common qualities these entrepreneurs possess. I hear their stories and that fuels my fire to succeed.
