Meet Wendy Trattner

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Wendy Trattner. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Wendy below.

Hi Wendy, great to have you with us today and excited to have you share your wisdom with our readers. Over the years, after speaking with countless do-ers, makers, builders, entrepreneurs, artists and more we’ve noticed that the ability to take risks is central to almost all stories of triumph and so we’re really interested in hearing about your journey with risk and how you developed your risk-taking ability.

When I was in high school, I took a risk and emailed a bunch of professors asking for an internship. I had no work experience. I was worried I would either be rejected, or that I might do a poor job and give a bad impression. But I was able to convince an MIT professor to let me work in his lab, and that opportunity changed the trajectory of my entire life. It wouldn’t have happened if I didn’t have the courage to ask.

So I learned pretty early on that taking risks can be a gamechanger. And while the alternative may be safe – to not risk rejection or discomfort – putting myself in uncomfortable situations has usually led to growth and positive opportunities. By taking careful risks, where the downside is minimal, I’m able to move more quickly toward my goals. And the more I practice, the better and more comfortable I become with risk and uncertainty.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m Wendy Trattner, an artist creating vibrant, abstract paintings that combine themes of existentialism, science, and emotion. My art often hides messages or incorporates physics equations to explore complex ideas about the world and our place in it. What excites me most is how these elements invite viewers to discover deeper layers of meaning and connection. Recently, I moved from San Francisco to Scottsdale, Arizona, and I’m opening a storefront studio that doubles as an art gallery. I’ll be hosting events and showcasing new collections there. You can follow my instagram or join my email list at wendytrattnerart.com for opportunities to experience my work and uncover the stories woven into each piece!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Confidence, persistence, and consistency.

Confidence is objectively one of the biggest indicators of success, and if it doesn’t come naturally, it comes from practice doing difficult things. For me, confidence is a neverending journey, but some basic level of confidence has allowed me to take risks and put myself out there in order to find opportunities.

Persistence is essential in any field. You have to be able to make it through challenges in order to achieve any goals worth reaching. I think this comes from making sure that whatever you’re pursuing is something you truly, deeply want.

I’m learning that consistency is an important part of the recipe. Small actions and progress make a huge difference over time, and it’s easy to underestimate how much can happen in a few years if you put in small efforts with consistency. Building habits and strategies to keep moving toward your goals, no matter how slowly, can keep you on track even when you don’t feel motivated or may be going through a rocky patch for any reason.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?

My art is for anyone who appreciates art, bold colors, and shares my optimism, curiosity, and joy for life. Likewise, much of my art is extremely simple, a reminder to enjoy the moment and practice mindfulness and gratitude. My clients are fellow scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs, people deeply connect with the idea of living life to the fullest, or people who simply enjoy bright & emotional artwork. My art has been found in homes, apartments, tech startups, retail stores, international art shows, artbattles, Gap Inc. HQ, and even the famous Tartine Bakery!

If this resonates, please reach out! Whether it’s a statement piece for your home, a mural for your space, or a creative collaboration, I’d love to work with you to make art that sparks curiosity and connection.
