Meet Wendy Wilson

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Wendy Wilson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Wendy, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I attribute much of my confidence to my upbringiing and the example of my parents. I grew up in a household were my options and opportunities were framed by my mindet and level of thinking. Examples of limitless possibilities were also introduced to me through reading. Having access to a home library and regular visits to the local library exposed me to a world of people who transcended unimagined circumstances because of their confidence and high-self esteem. If they were able to achieve the unimagined despite the odds, then certainly I could, simply armed with the confidence and positive self-esteem necessary to enter the spaces I seek and desire.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

With intentional planning and dedicated efforts, 2024 is unfolding to be a very promising and fruitful year for my business and the clients I serve. My book, 101 Career Planning and Executive Presence Strategies is scheduled for release, January 2024. It is replete with key strategies and tips to develop and guide professionals whether they are entry level or in the C-suite.

The weekend of March 22-24, 2023, I will serve as the summit host and trainer for the innaugural Executive Presence Summit to be held in Macon, Georgia. The summit is designed for individuals who desire to develop and advance in their professions as leaders. Specifically, attendees will learn the strategies essential to normalize- emotional intelligence, effective communication and professional aesthetic. The summit will encompass a limited number of attendees, 25-30 persons creating an atmosphere of engaging and private coaching.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The first of the three qualities I would recommend is to be prepared for unexpected opportunities. Have the elevator speech, electronic portfolio(showcasing body of work), resume, bio readily available. The second, is the mastery of simply saying thank you. Acknowledge the smallest and grandest gestures. This practice has opened numerous doors for me. Lastly, being brave! Seek and ask for access and opportunities to demonstrate my skills and abilities.

As an executive coach I always advise clients to-
1. Master the habit of being a committed and avid learner and reader. Information and retained knowledge is king!
2.Develop and maintain a diverse body of relationships/board of advisors.
3.Throughout your professional journey maintain a mentor(s), coach and sponsor/advocate.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
The Personal Touch: What You Really Need to Succeed in Today’s Fast Paced Business World by Terrie Williams I encourage all of my clients to read it. It is a compilation of nuggets that highlights the impact of consistent and deliberate communication. One of my favorite nuggets – the art of acknowledging the work of others. Acknowledging and celebrating the work of others can have mutual benefits. Williams’ act of consistently saying congratulations or continued success to a major Hollywood actor, eventually led to her securing him as a major client ultimately transforming her public relations business. I’ve followed this practice and it’s yielded abundant success for me personally and professionally.
