Meet We’re There Films

We were lucky to catch up with We’re There Films recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi We’re There Films, so happy you were able to devote some time to sharing your thoughts and wisdom with our community. So, we’ve always admired how you have seemingly never let nay-sayers or haters keep you down. Can you talk to us about how to persist despite the negative energy that so often is thrown at folks trying to do something special with their lives?
We work in an industry that is often met with closed doors and the answer we all love to hate, “no.” We have made it our mission to always push forward despite these moments of pushback. When someone passes on a project of ours or says no to an opportunity we are presenting, we put our heads together to creatively come up with ways to open our own doors and create our own opportunities. We hope that through all of our persistence, one day, others will come knocking on our door and we can be the ones to open it. We truly believe that when one door closes, another one opens. Even if we have to get the chainsaw out.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
We are a dynamic production company led by a visionary duo of impassioned actors who have made it their mission to share compelling narratives that challenge the status quo, champion underrepresented voices, and inspire transformation. We’re There Films is a female-led company that has boldly carved out its own space at the table to ignite a dialogue that matters. Our passion for creative excellence is rooted in our unwavering commitment to representation and diversity, which echo beyond the page and into the hearts and minds of our audience. We are a tenacious and gritty team of storytellers who bring authenticity and nuance to every project we undertake.

At We’re There Films, we take pride in our cheeky and witty approach to storytelling. We’re not afraid to be a little dope and original, while always staying relevant to our audience’s culture. Our stylistic choices are eclectic, but always driven by good marketing and a deep understanding of what our audience wants to see. Our films are audience-driven, and we believe in the power of storytelling to connect with people on a meaningful level.

We’re all about having fun while creating something aesthetically pleasing, whether it’s edgy and gritty or funny and female-driven. We’re inclusive and believe in building a sense of community with our audience, fostering a connection that goes beyond the screen. Overall, our goal at We’re There Films is to tell stories that are both entertaining and thought-provoking, always pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the world of film.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Assertiveness, tenacity, and curiosity are the three qualities that have been most impactful for both Cat and me on our journey to becoming producers and laying the foundation for We’re There Films. These things cannot be taught but must be experienced and learned along the way through collaborating with others and being met with adversity. Over time, these three attributes have become second nature, inspiring us to articulate our visions, maintain perseverance, and foster an insatiable appetite for continuous growth.

For those who are early in their journey, our advice to you is to stay true to yourself and hang on to your inner voice. Know that when you get knocked down, you will always find your way back. Keep going! You have to be the person who believes in yourself the most, more than your family, more than your friends. Read everything, say yes, go to events, network, and collaborate. Don’t stop until you reach your goals, and even then, there is so much more to accomplish!

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
It is no secret that both the WGA and SAG Union are striking right now. This has caused us to pivot and put a lot of our projects on hold. However, we are staying encouraged because we know there is an end and we see the bigger picture. Speaking again of persistence, we have found ways to pour into the company during this time that allow us to feel productive and optimistic.
