We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Wesley Earp. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Wesley below.
Wesley, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
I keep my creativity alive by traveling, spending time in nature, or watching others create. Traveling helps me to disconnect from my daily routine and exposes me to new cultures, foods, and ideas. Traveling allows me to reduce my stress levels and boosts productivity once I return home. A two- or three-day trip can energize me to set and achieve new goals for my business.
Getting out in nature is a great way to decompress and relax. I enjoy going on hikes and observing nature. It allows me to quiet my thoughts and plan for the future. God is the ultimate creator, so I always feel inspired when I get a moment to spend time looking at nature.
Watching other creators create is one of the most significant sources of creativity. I like going to art museums, watching live music, and watching live streams. I use others as inspiration. If I see someone make something cool, I put my spin on it. Adding your perspective to something is an essential component of running a business. There is nothing new under the sun, so you have to be able to add your creativity to things that already exist.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Wealth Management is my day job. I also host a podcast about entrepreneurship and financial literacy. My favorite part about being in Wealth Management is the information I absorb daily. I learn constantly in my current career, from professionalism, managing others, and tax mitigation strategies. There is never a dull moment in wealth management. My favorite thing about being a podcaster is the networking aspect. I get to speak with brilliant business owners weekly and learn how they create successful companies. I also get to build my network and foster excellent working relationships with the guests on the podcast.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The most important skills to develop are active listening, effective communication, and curiosity. Being an active listener helped me to create a podcast that provides value to consumers that want to learn more about business, finance, and leadership. Effective communication skills enable me to express my ideas and goals clearly and concisely to others. Effective communication leads to execution. Remain curious at all times. By questioning and digging deeper into topics that interest you, you can create/build products that will benefit humanity.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
Everyone around me helps me overcome challenges and build essential skills that I need to be successful. My mother keeps me on point by giving me great advice about handling difficult situations. She is the first person I go to to help me find the best solutions possible. She constantly reminds me to work hard and keep a good attitude while doing it. She also critiques my podcast episode to help me improve my vocabulary and conversational skills. My father, brother, and close friends encourage me to stay consistent and keep moving forward.
