Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Weston Hudson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Weston, so great to have you on the platform and excited to have you share your wisdom with our community today. Communication skills often play a powerful role in our ability to be effective and so we’d love to hear about how you developed your communication skills.
The environment in which I was raised there wasn’t much expression of feelings and emotions and there was a lot of manipulation as well. This forced me to really search for the truth. The truth not only in my environment but also the truth within myself. It created a drive to want to express myself and be authentic, which I feel is the most effective part of communicating. In communicating, it’s important to know what you want to say and why you want to say it first and then find the words that describe your intent. All communication starts first with an intention. So I work really hard on knowing why I am saying what I am saying. Thich Nhat Hanh, the Vietnamese monk and peace activist who worked with Martin Luther King, Jr., emphasized that before effectively communicating with others, one must first learn to communicate with oneself, fostering self-awareness and compassion as the foundation for meaningful interactions. Once I heard that, I integrated this idea that I must first learn myself better in order to express and communicate with others.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
One of the most exciting things for me is helping people break free from limiting thoughts and beliefs so they can rediscover hope, possibility, and personal power. For over 25 years, I’ve immersed myself in personal development and spirituality, integrating these insights into my creative work and healing practices.
My work includes — books, music, healing prayers, and meditations—each designed to inspire transformation and I’m most excited to introduce my new online course, Shift and Shine: From Blocks to Breakthroughs. This 6 week program helps people uncover and release the shame and guilt that may be quietly holding them back from the life they truly desire. I also offer one-on-one sessions to help individuals remove internal blocks and step into a life of greater ease, joy, and fulfillment. Too often, our past convinces us we aren’t worthy or capable of living fully, but that isn’t the truth. I believe everyone has a unique mission and gift to share with the world. The Shift and Shine program guides participants through a transformative journey to heal, reclaim their personal power, and create a life driven by love, purpose, and joy.
At the core of everything I do, is a simple but powerful mission: to help people love more deeply, cultivate compassion for themselves and others, and embrace new possibilities that uplift both their lives and the world around them.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I believe that everyone’s journey is unique, but one thing I’ve learned is that if we trust the process and follow our heart and intuition, we’ll naturally be led to the people, education, resources, and experiences we need to take the next step in our mission. Looking back, three key qualities and skills that had the biggest impact on my journey:
1. Openness to New Ideas and Teachings
For a long time, I was resistant to outside input. Before moving to Los Angeles at 19, I was stubborn in my perspectives and hesitant to learn from teachers or guides. Growing up in a small Texas town, I was somewhat sheltered from the vast diversity of ideas, cultures, and philosophies in the world. But once I embraced curiosity and humility, my life transformed. Being open allowed me to step into experiences I would have never encountered had I stayed guarded. My advice? Stay curious. Be willing to challenge your current beliefs, and allow life to surprise you with new wisdom.
2. A Deep Understanding of Systems and Problem-Solving
Oddly enough, my background in technology—studying programming in college, working for Apple, and teaching computers at a music college—gave me an unexpected advantage in my healing and personal development work. Learning how to code helped me see how things are structured and interconnected. As Steve Jobs once said, “Everybody in this country should learn how to program a computer because it teaches you how to think.” Programming isn’t just about technology; it’s about problem-solving and reverse engineering solutions. Healing is much the same. To move forward, we often have to understand how we got stuck in the first place. Learning to deconstruct and rebuild our thought patterns, just like debugging code, can be a powerful tool for self-awareness and transformation. Also, computers became an important tool in helping me create my projects and share them with the world.
3. Trusting the Inner Voice
One of the most powerful shifts in my life happened when I learned to trust my own intuition. There will always be outside voices telling us what we should do, but deep down, we each have an internal guidance system that knows what’s truly aligned for us. Early on, I often doubted my instincts or looked for validation from others, but over time, I realized that the more I listened to my intuition, the more life unfolded in miraculous ways. My advice for those just starting an introspective, spiritual journey? Start practicing small acts of trust in yourself. Follow what excites you, notice when something feels off, and pay attention to what your heart is telling you—it’s always leading you toward your highest path.
Ultimately, personal growth is a process of unlearning fears, embracing possibilities, and remembering who you truly are. Stay open, stay curious, and trust that you are always being guided.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
One of the most impactful people in my life was a woman named Leonora Panich. She was the widow of the late comedy writer David Panich (The Monkees, Laugh-In), and I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone love another person as deeply as she loved him. Though he had passed before I met her, she carried that love with her in everything she did. She taught me so much about love, spirituality, and trust—not through lectures or advice, but simply by being who she was: a generous, radiant presence who gave without ever expecting anything in return.
Leonora was a beautiful dancer, a gifted painter, and a joyful light wherever we went. One of my most memorable moments with her happened when I tried to help her overcome a creative block. She had stopped painting after David died, and I wanted to support her in getting back to it. So, I decided to buy her a book: How to Think Like Leonardo da Vinci. When I told her the title, she laughed and said, “What makes you think Leonardo doesn’t need to think like me?” That moment stopped me in my tracks. I realized I had been trying to fix her, as if she needed changing—as if a book could teach her something she didn’t already know. But when I looked at the paintings hanging on her wall, saw the brilliance in her work, and recognized the sharp wit in her mind (which no doubt attracted a man like David to her), I understood: she was already a genius in her own way.
That day, we went to The Grove with the intention of buying the book, but through a series of events, we never made it to the store. It felt as if she was quietly showing me that she didn’t need the book—she already knew. A few months later, without any prompting, she started painting again.
Leonora was a true gift of joy to the world, and I’m beyond grateful to have been blessed by her presence. I still have one of her paintings hanging in my home, a reminder of her wisdom, magic, and creativity.
P.S. She also introduced me to a healer that shifted everything in my life. Thanks Leonora.
