Whitney , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I found my purpose at a very young age while working at a well know beauty counter. I realized the joy that doing makeup brought me and seeing the expression on my clients faces when they held up the mirror was a feeling that I just couldn’t explain.I knew that making people feel beautiful was something that I wanted to do every single day. Whether that was me doing their makeup or them wearing my products, they always had that boost of confidence and a big smile.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am the owner of W Cosmetics and the most exciting part about what I do is that no one day is the same. Today I could be working packing orders and the next day I am at an event speaking to people about my business. The best part of W Cosmetics is that we have something for everyone! We are most known for our lip products. That is because we have a wide range of colors, formulas, and textures! If you are a bold matte lip lover… we have products for you. If you are someone who may not want to wear makeup but still want to take care of your lips, we are your go to with our luxurious lip care products. We put a lot of time, love, and care into our products. Outside of lips we have the best face primer on the market that has been one of our top selling product.
Our customers, or what we call our W Fam, love W Cosmetics because we listen to them. We do a lot of market research to see what people want and what is missing. When our W Fam give us feedback, we take it and make improvements. They always DM us on social media or email us. Even if it is just to tell us they can’t wait until the next product we release. We are a true family!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I would say patience, authenticity, and creativity. I chose these three because I didn’t always possess those qualities. I feel like in the very beginning of my journey I would try to mimic the footprint of other successful brands that I saw. But that did not work for W Cosmetics. What works for someone else may not always work for you, and your customers can always tell when you are not being authentic. I had to learn to not rush my process and stick true to who we are and what makes us unique.
My advice to someone just starting in their journey would be to really understand why you are starting and to have your own brand identity. Your customers will gravitate to you because they like what you offer and what you stand for. Don’t be afraid to bring your creativity and personality to your brand.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was teach me that quitting was never an option from a very young age. They taught me that even when things get tough you have to keep pushing through. That drive to keep going has helped me thrive in my business. Times are not always going to be easy and business has its ups and downs. But if you keep persevering you will come out on top.
