Meet Whitney Waz

We were lucky to catch up with Whitney Waz recently and have shared our conversation below.

Whitney, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

What an interesting thing to sit back and resonate on, where I developed my confidence and self-esteem. I think this goes back to my childhood really. My family is everything to me and my parents as well as my brother played a huge part in the person I am today. Of course there have been countless times throughout my life in which I felt like I wasn’t good enough or I was different or just had a negative mindset in general, but the people cheering me on in my corner always helped to alleviate those feelings of self doubt and now they’re partially aspects of me I cherish. Being different is good, being different is a form of confidence in my opinion, and I flourish in that mindset. I feel so committed to who I am that I feel my differences from the people around me make me a staple in any room. I’ve never wanted to fit into a category or a stereotype, quite frankly I hate the idea of that. Which is impart why I feel like I have a hard time even classifying myself musically to one genre. Aside from that my self-esteem is an ever evolving ebb and flow, I don’t always feel great and that’s good, in those areas I fight harder, I push harder, and I commit to a resolution. But ultimately without the support from my family growing up, I don’t believe I would be as confident in myself and in being different if it weren’t for them. I love them with everything that I am and I am extremely blessed and grateful for the love I have always received from them. They’re my biggest fans.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am a singer, songwriter, vocal producer, and as I like to playfully say a good vibe spreader, haha. I’ve been releasing music now for 4 years, although I’ve been singing ever since I can remember. Along my musical journey I’ve been collaborating with really influential artists/producers . I am beyond blessed to have a plethora of amazingly talented friends who feel the same way about me who send me beats all the time for us to work on together. My goal really is to have my music heard around the world by everyone and to make an income solely off of my music ( a girl can dream right? ) So, I enjoy collaborating with artists that I love who also encapsulate different genres other than the one I do, more genres equal more opportunities to reach new excited music lovers, right? I’m hoping so haha. I know this can also be a little debilitating in a way because like, ” What does Whitney Waz do? ” To which I like to respond a little bit of everything. Which just goes back to my need for all spectrums of my life being realized and not isolating myself to one specific genre, identity, or as I said previously, stereotype. Since 2025 began I have released a record every month, and I plan to continue on with that journey by releasing my next record on April 27th , Like A Drug, produced by grammy award winning producer, Jared Lee Gosselin. Rewind a little bit, I have dropped a record this year with Mr. Buttonz that was signed by Grand Alliance Music titled Interlock 27 , and it continues to pop off, so I’m super grateful and excited about that. To add to that I had a second record remixed by my great friend Techtonic, I’ve Already Died which has been written up in multiple articles and was also signed by Grand Alliance Music. I really just don’t plan on stopping and I’m genuinely having a great time.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

My work ethic has taken me to the point where I stand today, I am extremely driven and with that highly competitive with myself. I check my Spotify stats daily and compare them to last years stats like its another job of mine. I appreciate growth and I hate remaining stagnant, so that really helps me gauge where I’m at and how hard I’m working. my advice to anyone looking to achieve anything in their life is to relentlessly pursue what you feel is meant for you, because the things that are meant for you already are yours if you have the courage to reach out and grab them. And I’d also say be cool with who you are and confident that there is no one that does things the way you do because quite simply they can’t, they’re not you.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?

Literally everyone who has stepped into my life has taught me something, whether it be good or bad there’s always a lesson to be learned. But here are a few off the top of my head, Brandon, or BLEECH taught me how to be efficient in protools. Without him I wouldn’t be the vocal producer that I am. Tyler, or Gar Den Boi, has taught me an immense amount about curating events. Lasty, Jeremy, or FROSTYYY, my videographer and photographer, he’s given me a lot of game about music industry things. I could go on and on but I feel like they’re pretty important people to give credit too.
