We recently connected with Will Bradford and have shared our conversation below.
Will, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
From trial and error. In any given situation, the glass is usually half full OR half empty, but when you are motivated with a mission and a purpose, leaving the glass half full almost always produces the best results. I think I was always born with a natural optimism, but that was certainly challenged, ceaselessly, in my 27 years in the music industry, but it is safe to say that from trials and many errors, things always end up more positively, outcome wise, when fueled with positive intent, and to do otherwise, is counter intuitive and quite frankly, a waste of time.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’ve spent 27 years touring, playing music, and 25 years currently, with my band SeepeopleS, an original anti-genre music project / band, that has defined my professional career. SeepeopleS has released eight albums, and is currently working on our ninth album. Since 2016, I have also been touring with theWorst, have released three albums, and also currently tour and produce Sparxsea and her music. I am also partner and owner of RascalZ RecordZ, as well as the president of the 501c3 charitable record label, CommunityZ RecordZ, and head of the boutique talent buying / production / promotions / publicity agency, The ARME Group, as well as acting talent buyer for the 450 capacity room, Bayside Bowl in Portland, ME.
Aside from this, I also work producing music with acts such as The Nth Power, Skyes, Chali 2na & Break Science, Angelikah Fahray and many, many more, as well as running full-service PR for acts such as Big Boi (Outkast), Lotus, SOJA, Floydfest, the Bogmen, Hot Mustard and many more.
I consider myself one of the luckiest humans to be able to work with the people I have. Sometimes I must pinch myself!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Keep moving! While periods of rest are important, finding the discipline to not only do the work, but find joy in doing so, will help you find purpose in your work, and ultimately, pride in accomplishing goals. Be open to finding a new part of you. By staying open you may be aware enough to grasp important opportunities. Lastly, listen to your heart first. The journey through life and work is overwhelming, confusing, and sometimes brutal and abusive. Understanding and accepting what the universe presents to you while on this journey will keep you open, and help you stay disciplined, as well as strong, and will help you to counter negative affirmations or rejections. In a biz like the music biz, this is an utter survival method.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
Property is Theft by Jean Pierre Proudhon, unhinged my understanding of the world. It has changed how I interact with people and the world around me, has certainly influenced my writing, and has left me a better person knowing that we are all just borrowers here.
