Meet William Jeffery

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to William Jeffery. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi William, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

I feel like resilience is one of those things you are constantly building, you never really know how relisant you are until faced with an obstacle. For this reason I try to look obstacles as just that, opportunities to practice resilience, obviously this is easier said than done but I like to think I get a little bit better each time and there is no better teacher than experience. That said, I think I learned a lot about resilience from my father he was stricken with polio as a young child (prior to there being a vaccine) and despite this went on to have a successful career as a drummer/jazz musician. The polio gave him a severe limp however, this did not stop him from toting his leaning tower of drums to gigs all over greater Los Angeles. This showed me very early on in life, that there is nothing that can’t be done if you put your mind to it.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

My wife and I are the proud owners of We Rock the Spectrum Studio city which is a children’s gym/play place. We provide a safe fun space for t play, socialize, and learn. While we cater to the neurodiverse community the gym is open to the public neurodiverse and typical alike allowing children of all backgrounds to play together and interact. This provides a unique opportunity for children to interact organically without the pressure of a structured environment such as a classroom or school. That said, we also offer enrichment classes such as dance, drums, art, etc providing a more structured experience for those looking for a more classroom like environment. Our goal is to give kids from all walks of life a fun place to learn, grow and be the best version of themself.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I think the 3 areas of knowledge or skills that helped most so far on this journey would be patience, perseverance and effective communication. Patience is key because not everyone or everything moves at the pace you want or expect, which can be a source of constant frustration if you are not patient. Perseverance is necessary for the many obstacles you will inevitably face. I have learned pursuing anything of substance will inherently involve obstacles, set backs and challenges the better you are at taking these in stride and continuing to push forward the easier it will be to stay the course and accomplish your goals. Lastly I feel like effective communication is an under appreciated skill, being able to speak, share ideas and or feedback while staying neutral and not offending anyone can be a delicate balancing act. For that reason I feel like effective communication is the glue that holds everything together on this journey, providing a gateway to resources, relationships and so much more.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

We are currently looking for teachers to help expand our class schedule, specifically music and Spanish however we are open to other class ideas. Our ideal teacher would have some experience working with neurodiverse children and be passionate about teaching and their craft. While we are currently focused on filling Spanish and music we are always looking for passionate knowledgeable individuals with a love for kids and a desire to teach. So if you are reading this love kids and have a passion for teaching feel free to reach out via email info@werockthespectrumstudiocity.com or give us a call at 818 980 5437.
