Hi Willis, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

I found my purpose through a combination of meditation and a deep belief in my inner calling. From a young age, I’ve always known in my heart that my purpose is to create, to innovate, and to bring meaningful changes to society. Even as a child, I was drawn to inventing—sketching ideas, building prototypes, and imagining solutions to everyday problems.

This drive to create followed me into adulthood, shaping my education, career, and ultimately, the path I’ve taken as an inventor and entrepreneur. Over the years, I’ve worked on various patents, channeling my passion for innovation into contributions that solve real-world challenges.

When I founded Need Eye Exam, PLLC with Dr. Tina Wang, I wanted to create a company that was not only innovative but also impactful—a company that made high-quality eye care accessible to underserved communities.

Meditation has been a key practice for me, helping me remain grounded while exploring the limitless possibilities of what I can build and achieve. It’s in those quiet moments that my ideas take shape and my vision becomes clearer. I like to think of myself as a visionary—someone who sees opportunities to make impactful changes and strives to turn them into reality. My purpose is to leave the world a little better, a little brighter, through creativity, invention, and the unique path I’ve chosen to walk.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m Dr. Willis Grajales, CEO of Need Eye Exam, PLLC, and my journey is rooted in a lifelong passion for innovation and making a positive impact on people’s lives. At Need Eye Exam, we specialize in providing high-quality, accessible, and affordable eye care services. What sets us apart is our commitment to using cutting-edge technology and creative solutions to meet the needs of diverse communities, particularly those underserved by traditional healthcare systems.
One of our core missions is to ensure that no one is left behind when it comes to receiving essential eye care. We proudly offer affordable eye exams specifically designed to meet the needs of low-income and culturally diverse communities. By lowering the financial barrier to entry, we make high-quality vision care accessible to individuals and families who may otherwise struggle to afford it. Additionally, our multilingual services and culturally sensitive approach help us connect with patients from various backgrounds, ensuring they feel understood and respected.

We have an R&D department that drives innovation with patents, music, comic books, and products focused on enhancing eye health. What excites me most about what we do is how we’ve turned vision care into an innovative, personalized experience. Our patented telemedicine technology enables us to provide mobile eye care, breaking barriers to access for underserved communities.

We are proud to be pioneers in the eye care industry, achieving many firsts that have set new standards for innovation. Although we are a small company, we are leaders in eye health research and development. This is exemplified by our patents, which have been recognized and cited by major companies such as Kyndryl (IBM) and Porsche. These citations highlight the global impact and relevance of our work.

Additionally, we’ve developed unique offerings, such as Vision Looky™ music, designed to bring positivity to the world. We also created a children’s science fiction comic book “Unique Superheroes: Visionary” that introduces the importance of vision care and science to children in an engaging way. We also developed a new product that help reduce eye conditions such as dry eye and blepharitis.

For us, eye care isn’t just a service; it’s a way to empower people to live healthier, more fulfilling lives. We’re not just building a business; we’re fostering a movement that prioritizes accessibility, innovation, and community wellness.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, three key traits shaped my journey: creativity, resilience, and lifelong learning.

Creativity helped me see opportunities where others saw challenges, leading to patents, innovative tools, and accessible technology. My advice? Stay curious and think outside the box.

Resilience kept me going through setbacks and inspired me to find creative ways to uplift others. For example, we created our music collection, Vision Looky™ Music, available on TikTok, Spotify, iTunes, and many other platforms, to bring positivity to those facing life’s struggles. The uplifting lyrics and melodies are designed to provide hope and encouragement, helping to raise spirits during challenging times. My advice? Embrace failure as a learning opportunity, stay focused on your goals, and find ways to inspire yourself and others.

Lifelong learning has kept me at the forefront of innovation. Stay open to new skills, ideas, and experiences.
