We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Willow Paule. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Willow below.
Willow, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Finding my purpose has been an evolving process. One thing that’s remained constant is my deep curiosity about people and their stories. Throughout my life and career, I’ve always been drawn to understanding what drives others, what motivates them, and how they see the world. This connection has made me value empathy, vulnerability, and deep listening as core components of everything I do.
I have spent time clarifying my values and recognizing what truly makes me feel fulfilled and successful. I realized that I feel most purposeful when I help people who are on a mission—whether it’s helping other humans, the earth, or animals.
As a content marketing person, I want to help people who are doing really important work tell their stories in a way that connects with the right audience and doesn’t make them feel like sell-outs.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Hi, I’m Willow Paule, and I help people fall in love with content creation. Whether it’s by handing it all over to me or tightening up the content they’re writing and designing themselves. I help with blogs, emails, and social media content and love to work with purpose-led business owners to help them get more visible and connect with soulmate clients.
I offer a done-with-you group program Content With Friends for people who’d like to connect with more great clients through their social media posts. We meet up on a video call every other week, and hash out content ideas, do critiques, and discuss any current content struggles. In between these calls, I offer coworking sessions to help participants get their content done so all they have to do is post. Many struggle with staying accountable or finding time to create the content we’ve envisioned, so this space really helps entrepreneurs with consistency.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, I believe these three qualities have been impactful in my entrepreneurial journey: staying open to change, being a thorough researcher, and developing strong boundaries. Here’s a bit more about each, along with advice for those just starting out:
Staying open to change:
Entrepreneurship is unpredictable. Whether it’s market downturns, emerging trends, or global events like a pandemic, the ability to stay flexible and adapt is essential. Being open to change means being comfortable with uncertainty, however difficult that sounds. It’s about thinking on your feet, experimenting with new approaches, and viewing setbacks as opportunities for growth. My advice for newcomers is to embrace this mindset early on—try new things, learn from mistakes, and keep evolving. This openness is what keeps you moving forward, even when things don’t go as planned.
Being a thorough researcher:
Early in my career, when I was transitioning and exploring different fields, I made it a priority to thoroughly research any area that caught my attention. For example, when I discovered the field of virtual assistance, I dove deep into understanding what skills were in demand, what programs were useful, and how I could position myself in the market. My advice for those early in their journey is to approach new opportunities with curiosity. Take the time to understand not only the “how” but also the “why” behind what you’re pursuing. This research will equip you with a clearer path and a more informed perspective.
Developing strong boundaries:
Setting clear, healthy boundaries is one of the most important lessons I’ve learned as a business owner. It’s easy to want to please clients or take on too much, but without boundaries, it becomes harder to protect your time, energy, and well-being. When you face a situation that challenges your boundaries, take it as a learning opportunity. Ask yourself what you can do differently next time. Do you need to update your contracts, clarify expectations, or establish better communication? My advice is to treat clients with respect, but also prioritize your needs. The balance between empathy and self-care will serve you well in the long term.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
My parents were entrepreneurs and creatives. This set the stage for me to also become a creative entrepreneur. I can’t thank them enough for valuing spaces that had diverse people and freethinkers and exposing me to different experiences, cultures, and ideas.
