We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Wilson Joel. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Wilson below.

Wilson, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

It started with an innate desire to see those around me succeed and flourish, even if it sometimes came at a personal cost.

Early on, I noticed that I derived the greatest sense of fulfillment not from my own accomplishments, but from being able to lift others up and support them in realizing their full potential. Whether it was collaborating with pastors, musicians, and artists, or reaching out to the “down trodden” to help them get back on their feet, I found immense joy in being a positive force in someone else’s journey.

There was something deeply rewarding about being able to offer guidance, resources, or simply a listening ear to help someone overcome obstacles and achieve their dreams. Watching their faces light up with excitement and gratitude as they made progress towards their goals was infinitely more gratifying to me than any personal accolade or material success.

Over time, I began to realize that this impulse to serve others and contribute to their growth was not just a passing interest, but a core part of who I am. It became clear that my true purpose lies in leveraging my skills, connections, and empathy to empower people and help them become the best versions of themselves.

Of course, this selfless dedication has sometimes come at a cost to my own wellbeing, as I’ve sacrificed my own needs and comfort to ensure the happiness and fulfillment of others. But I’ve never regretted that tradeoff, because the joy I feel in witnessing someone’s dreams come to fruition far outweighs any personal hardship.

This realization has imbued my life with a profound sense of meaning and purpose. I wake up each day energized by the opportunity to make a positive difference, to be a beacon of hope and support for those in need. It is the truest expression of who I am, and I’m grateful to have found this calling that brings me such deep fulfillment.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m Wilson Joel, widely known as the “Music Magnate” in the industry. I’m a self-taught music producer, director, composer, audio engineer, songwriter, voice/talent coach, multi-instrumentalist, and media entrepreneur. Over the past two decades, I’ve had the privilege of making a significant impact on the music and production landscape through my innovative approach and by collaborating with incredibly talented artists and creators.

One of my proudest achievements was directing concerts like “The Experience Lagos” – events that allowed me to showcase the incredible depth of musical talent we have in Africa. I’m actively involved in the industry, holding memberships with prestigious organizations like the GRAMMYS’ Recording Academy and the EMMYS’ Television Academy. I’ve also had the honor of collaborating with giants like Sony Music and Universal Music in South Africa, where I’m currently signed to Universal Music Publishing.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to write, produce, mix, and master countless hit tracks, working alongside renowned artists across Africa, Europe, and the United States. Seeing my work resonate with over 40 million enthusiasts around the world has been an incredibly humbling and fulfilling experience.

But my purpose extends far beyond just creating successful music. I’m deeply committed to fostering creative growth, ensuring fair participation of all music stakeholders, and combating exploitative practices that too often plague our industry. These endeavors are truly close to my heart, starting in Nigeria and expanding to other African countries, and now reaching North America and beyond.

As the Creative Head of Doxology Music Entertainment LLC in Maryland, USA, I have the opportunity to directly impact and empower the next generation of artists and producers. It brings me immense joy to play a role in helping others achieve their dreams and unlock their full potential. That’s what drives me, day in and day out – the chance to be a positive force in the lives of those I work with.

This passion for uplifting and empowering others has been the guiding light throughout my career. Even when it’s come at a personal cost, I’ve never regretted prioritizing the happiness and fulfillment of the people I collaborate with. The joy I feel in witnessing their success is truly unparalleled. It’s what makes this journey so deeply rewarding and fulfilling for me.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

1. Talent discovery and nurturing.
2. Events coordination
3. Team lead cross-functions.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

First and foremost, I try to recognize and acknowledge the feelings of being overwhelmed, rather than trying to power through them. It’s important to be honest with myself about when I’m reaching a point of being stretched too thin or feeling the weight of all my commitments.

One of the key strategies I’ve found helpful is to take a step back and reassess my priorities. I’ll pause and ask myself what the most important and time-sensitive tasks are that I need to focus on. This helps me cut through the noise and really hone in on what absolutely needs my attention right now.

From there, I try to break down those critical tasks into more manageable, bite-sized steps. Tackling things piece by piece, rather than looking at the massive to-do list all at once, makes it feel much more doable. I find I’m able to make steady progress this way, without getting bogged down or paralyzed by the vastness of everything I need to accomplish.

Regular breaks are also essential for me when I’m feeling overwhelmed. Whether it’s taking a walk, meditating, or simply stepping away from my work for a few minutes, those moments of respite help me recharge and return to my tasks with renewed focus and clarity.

And importantly, I’m not afraid to ask for help when I need it. Delegating tasks, collaborating with my team, or even reaching out to mentors or peers for advice – these are all ways I can lighten my load and get the support I need to push through challenging periods.

The key is to be proactive and not let the overwhelm spiral out of control. By implementing these strategies, I’m able to stay grounded, maintain my productivity, and avoid burnout, even when the demands on my time and energy feel relentless.

Ultimately, I’ve learned that being honest with myself, prioritizing self-care, and leveraging my support system are essential for combating feelings of being overwhelmed. It’s all about finding the right balance and pacing myself, so I can continue to show up fully and effectively for the people and projects that matter most.
