We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Wole Ajagbe. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Wole below.
Wole, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
A lot of trial and error.
I am so grateful to everyone who has brought me onto their project, asked me to document an important life event or embraced my creative whims in front of the lens. Through each of these experiences, I’ve found what I resonate with most, what I find draining and what I find most fulfilling. Currently, I get the most out of creating for fellow artists–we share an understanding around the sometimes mental and mostly emotional journey through the creative cycle. I learn so much from these artists, especially when it comes to the process behind creative mediums that I have yet to explore on my own.
I think about artists like Xenia Gray or Liah Pérez who have let me into their sacred creative spaces and given me the freedom to observe, capture and share their stories. Our ongoing collaboration gives me life and projects like these give my work meaning.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Titles aside, I consider myself a storyteller first. Anything that I fit within the frame of my viewfinder was inspired first by a story that I want to tell. This has been true since my disposable camera days as a child, has remained true through my formal training in high school, ‘iPhoneography’ days in my 20’s, and my present exploration on analog film. I draw inspiration for these stories from musicians, fashion trends, places I’ve traveled to (or want to travel to) and other image makers whose work I admire. I am at my best when I apply my love for storytelling to amplify the work of fellow creators and translate what they do into a visual story that is tangible, visceral and heartwarming.
I plan to take all that I’ve learned from my journey so far and channel it into a career in creative direction. I’m fascinated by the potential of telling one cohesive story across multiple mediums with help from a team of artists.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I think it’s important to foster a ruthless attention to detail, feed your insatiable curiosity and develop your sense of self-love. Each of these skills have helped me elevate my craft, fearlessly explore new techniques and styles, even when I found them challenging, and stay true to myself whether I was happy with my work or not.
I have never enjoyed giving advice but I’ll give it a shot: create for yourself first and get comfortable in the valley of despair–that frustrating period we as. humans go through when learning a new craft or skill. This is where I have learned most about myself, my core values and the engine that fuels my creativity. Eventually I emerged on the other side creating work that consistently sparked joy.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am always looking for people to partner with! Experts in sound design, illustrators, writers and set designers — basically anyone who can take our collective imagination and transform it into something tactile and multi-sensory. I’ve gotten really good at creating solo and in small teams but I dream of projects that depend on a small army. If you also share this dream, feel free to say hello at anytime via my website, woleajagbe.com.
