We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Wootzability. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with WOOTZAbility below.
WOOTZAbility, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
For me it’s obvious that I get my work ethic from my mom. Raising three kids by herself while being self employed, yea, she didn’t sit much or at all really. Not to mention throughout all my childhood she would look out for others. Always providing, keeping us thriving. Long story short she’s a hero in many ways. Figuring out how to accommodate all of me and my siblings passions and go above and beyond? That takes work. Running your own business? Yea, that takes WORK. Helping people, taking people in, takes HEART. I may not have necessarily known how she was doing that, but regardless, growing up and seeing that, I now have this feeling of needing to MOVE. Of needing to get after what I want and doing it on my own terms and getting it DONE. And maybe even lend a hand through the hustle of the day. This is a synopsis of where I feel my work ethic was developed. Just the drive to move and get things done. The details of how I got things done just came with time, all I did was apply what I seen as a young child. Whatever my mind got set on, I put forth what was engrained in me from my environment. Luckily for me I had many people like my mom around me. So it’s only right I’m out here following my dreams, accomplishing goals, checking boxes, doing the most. It’s only right.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I AM WOOTZAbility. WOOTZ, being a steel with such a unique element, the formula is lost to time. Born and raised in North Minneapolis MN, I Started doing poetry when I was about 8 years old. from there, other art forms emerged along with alias’s eventually landing on WOOTZAbility. Some of these other arts include but aren’t limited to; Acting(stage/film), directing, modeling, engineering, producing, writing, rapping and performance. The most prominent of these at a time was acting. I started acting when I was 13, getting my first role as a lead in a school musical. From there I acted all throughout High-school (S/o Journey Productions and Steppingstone Theatre). In college I got invited to be apart the KCACTF(Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival) Workshop at the Kennedy center In Washington D.C. (S/o Ylvisaker Fine Arts Center) Throughout my acting journey, writing and rapping was always in the backdrop. Thanks to friends encouragement I started releasing music during my time in college but wasn’t really serious about it. But soon after college something clicked. I started Producing and engineering(S/o Virtuosity & Wavy Dave) when I was 24 during COVID, and for the past 4 years I have been honing in and getting better and better. Through these different experiences Im exited to showcase my new confidence in my music. Earlier this year I released “WILLING THE EP”. written and produced by me, WOOTZAbility. It is a blend of Alternative, Rock, Hip-hop, trip-hop, and experimental elements. You can find it on any streaming platform. The main purpose of my music in general is to inspire and empower. I was able to go after what I wanted, I want people to feel they can do the same. So I hope sharing my journey can do that as well. More art to come!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The first quality would be having an open mind. I feel I boxed myself in for a long time not realizing how expansive art is. I really had to open up and get out of my comfort zone to find what I’m comfortable in. The second quality is focus. Once I found that thing I had to be open minded about I flourished when I stayed Locked in. And the third, from my momma, have a good work ethic. When I finally came to a better understanding of how I work, I then understood certain things I could do better to get to the goals I had. If you’re new to whatever you do, first off, just sit in that for moment. Being new is probably one of the best but infuriating parts. But I didn’t realize that till later. get infuriated and keep going. You’re only new once especially if your continuously grinding. Celebrate those upgrades when you reach a certain level then reach higher. Sit with yourself and really zone in on what you want and what it takes. Then MOVE!

We’ve all got limited resources, time, energy, focus etc – so if you had to choose between going all in on your strengths or working on areas where you aren’t as strong, what would you choose?
This is a great question, and although I think it depends on the person, this is the way I personally feel. If your interested in multiple things, make a list of skills from most skilled to least in whatever you want to improve on. Make a timeline and aim for proficiency in the least skilled section. How long would it take to break the novice level of violin playing? how long would It take to get pretty good at coding or whatever? Whatever it is, plan it out. Because I think being well-rounded opens more doors in the long run. The more spaces that were different from each other that I’d be in, the more unique type of people I would meet and connect with, which led to more opportunity in doing what I loved. Art does that. so to me, be well rounded!
