We were lucky to catch up with Xander Gipson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Xander , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I found my music passion from my father. When I was growing up, music was a very big part of my life, since I grew up with my dad in a band and seeing him perform with many people coming to watch him inspired me.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a 15 year old Singer/Songwriter from a small town in Minnesota. What I feel is most important about my music is it’s a way I express my feelings, my thoughts, and just generally things I can’t express to anyone, and I also feel that anyone who listens to my music can use that as way to cope with the way they’re feeling and struggling with. I would also like to talk about a album I am currently working on titled “Through the Vines” where I discuss heartbreaks, love, grief, and just all of my experiences in life that I’ve never opened up about.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Knowing that patience is very important when it comes to music, no matter what people are going to try to get to you and aggravate you, and that music is a lot more than lyrics and an instrumental. My advice I have for people that are in their early stages of their career, is don’t let anyone’s words get to you and do what makes you happy, don’t rely on anyone but yourself, and if you feel like you aren’t achieving anything you expected to learn off the bat, remember that it takes time.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
The person that has helped me the most through music and just life in general would be my photographer/best friend Tristan Sprague. He’s helped me get placements on playlists and getting my music spread out to a bigger audience. He’s a true friend and a brother to me.
