We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Xander Wynn. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Xander below.
Xander , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I always find it funny when I tell this story because it was nothing but God, the way he aligned this all together. My purpose and passion for my business started the summer heading into my 7th-grade year. I attended this two-week film camp with my best friend at the time because he didn’t want to go without knowing anyone. Reluctantly my bestfriend and my mom were convinced it would be a fun change of speed to my days that were consumed by football.
During this two-week film camp, we were taught everything from how to turn on a camera to telling a compelling story and editing it all together. A camp that I was first skeptical about, turned into an enjoyable experience where I pitched the idea of two brothers having to be separated and the older brother watching from afar stemming from my relationship with my father who was absent and inconsistent at best. So that is why we created our three-minute short film and it was submitted to the White House South by South Lawn Film Festival (SXSL). I had the opportunity to meet and take a picture with former president, Barack Obama, and knew this was something special.
I continued to do two-week short films for the next two years telling more stories and winning more awards in the film industry. I realized after that, I had a skill for being able to tell stories through the lens and took that and turned it into a business called X.Wynn Films. In 2019, as a sophomore in high school, I started offering my services starting with my mother’s job at a non-profit organization, and my mentor’s new non-profit organization he was starting.
Fast forward to today, a 2022 high school graduate and a full time entrepreneur working with businesses and individuals to bring their stories to life through photography and videography. It is safe to say I found a part of my purpose and enjoy every moment of it. The goal is to shift back into short films and eventually feature-length films but at the time being, I enjoy working in the service industry and everything it has to offer me.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back on my journey, it’s clear that my creativity, youthful perspective, and ability to visualize the final product while capturing moments have been major drivers of my success. These qualities have really shaped how I approach my work.
My creative side has allowed me to think beyond the usual norms and come up with unique visual experiences that stand out. Then being young has given my work this fresh edge that keeps things interesting and engaging. And honestly, being able to see the end result in my mind as I’m snapping shots has let me weave together stories that truly connect with people.
For those who are just starting out, my advice would be to find out what really excites them, while always working to get better at their craft. I’ve learned that nurturing that creative spark, kind of like what I’ve been doing, is super important.
If you’re looking to get better, it’s all about teaming up with others and drawing inspiration from all over; use the world in front of you as inspiration and motivation. Also don’t forget to embrace a mindset that’s all about soaking up new knowledge, pushing through challenges, and being open to feedback. That’s the ticket to leveling up your skills and growing into a more polished artist.
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
At this stage, I find myself wrestling with the decision of creating a clear path toward further growth while effectively managing my current roles. Balancing my two jobs in the digital media field alongside running my own digital media company demands a strategic approach to time management and prioritization. I’m eager to continue expanding my skill set, both in my current roles and through potential education, to ensure I’m equipped to take my business to the next level.
One of my goals is to evolve my business to a point where I can devote all my energy and time to it, making it my full-time gig. While I recognize that my youth gives me plenty of time, I’m also aware that creating a roadmap is essential to achieving this goal. I’m exploring various avenues, including the possibility of going back to school to receive more knowledge that can contribute to the growth of my business.
All in all, my challenge is navigating this transitional period wisely, leveraging my current opportunities to further develop my skills, expand my network, and lay a solid foundation for my long-term goals. It’s an exciting journey that involves embracing change, staying adaptable, and finding the right balance between my multiple responsibilities
