We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Xavier Comas. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Xavier below.
Xavier, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I believe my resilience comes from my mother and my childhood experiences. As a self-conscious kid, I spent a lot of time exploring nature alone, deep in introspection. That solitude shaped my perspective, making me see life as an adventure—one filled with uncertainties, yet always inviting curiosity and the thrill of the unexpected.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’ve been a visual artist since I was a kid, always drawing and reading. I started my career as a book designer in 1990, back when we literally cut and glued letters onto paper. My love for technology led me to where I am now—running a location-independent book design studio with a global team and clients from all over the world. We design both covers and interiors for publishers and self-published authors.
What keeps me going is my lifelong love for books, but what excites me most is building concepts rather than execution. The real work happens in a split second when an idea clicks in your mind, yet the depth and value of that moment is endless.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Self awareness, curiosity and passion. I would encourage others to spend time on their own, perhaps on a solo journey.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
Being more emotionally balanced and not allowing the stress to affect the way I treat myself and others. This has been a game changer in terms of well-being.
