We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Xiaoli Mei. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Xiaoli below.
Xiaoli, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I grew up in an Asian family both parents were highly well educated. with a typical Asian tiger mom, I was told to study to become a lawyer or doctor one day. Since being a doctor was not really my passion, I pursued a law degree and became a lawyer, but I hated every minute of it. Back then my dream was to become a corporate executive travelling around the world doing business. With that dream, I came to the USA to pursue an MBA degree, landed a corporate job. I participated in a prestigious corporate rotational program, designed to cultivate global leaders. My roles in marketing, corporate hiring, training, and recruiting allowed me to hone my understanding of people and interpersonal dynamics. However, despite my good job with good pay, I felt unfilled and empty. My personal life suffered, I divorced twice, raising two kids in San Francisco Bay Area.
In 2007, a company-wide restructuring forced me to reevaluate my career, and I began exploring ways to combine my professional skills with a deeper purpose, something I would be passionate about. Initially, I started as a career coach, guiding professionals through layoffs and career transitions by unitizing my HR and people skills. Yet, a recurring theme emerged: my career coaching clients often turned discussions to their personal relationships. Recognizing an unmet need and fueled by my own passion for self-growth after two divorces, I pivoted toward matchmaking and relationship coaching.
I started many hours of personal development training and mentoring with coaches and mentors, this personal journey forms the foundation of my philosophy: love requires growth, effort, and a commitment to becoming one’s best self, in the mid of transforming my love life, I met the love of my life, my husband Jim. Now we have been happily married for 10 years. I believe it’s never too late to find love! True love is not a fairy tale but a mutual journey of growth. Relationships demand more than surface-level compatibility; they require commitment and constant learning to become better partners and individuals. This philosophy, rooted in my own journey, informs every aspect of my work.
My professional path began from a lawyer to corporate executive, now involved in the world of matchmaking! What a journey! But it’s truly I feel I found my passion and a deep purpose of helping people find lasting love. By blending coaching with matchmaking, I ensure my clients not only find love but also grow as individuals.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
As an Elite Asian matchmaker and celebrity matchmaker, I possess a profound understanding of psychology and cross-cultural dynamics that shape relationships. With dual certifications in matchmaking and relationship coaching, I have transformed the lives of countless singles, guiding them towards finding love and fulfilling partnerships.
My journey as a matchmaker began with my own quest for love and happiness. Having experienced two failed marriages and numerous unsatisfactory dating experiences, I became determined to decipher the elusive “Happiness Code.” My understanding of this was a delicate balance between a thriving career and a gratifying relationship. Finding fulfillment in all areas of my life was the key to being happy so I explored this rigorously. Ultimately, I discovered the key to unlocking love and relationship fulfillment that has forever altered the course of my life.
While many people profess to have discovered this happiness code, I truly have. I am blessed to share my life with my soulmate, Jim – a man who cherishes my ambitions, provides unwavering support, and loves me for who I am.
But I am more than a woman living out her fairy-tale romance, I am also a mom and an entrepreneur. I run a successful, thriving business doing work that I genuinely love. My story is one where all areas of my life are fulfilled, and I am on a personal mission to help other singles find their very own version of happily ever after.
The complexities of modern dating are very real. We read headlines all the time that tell us “You cannot have it all” and I am here to tell you that you can.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Self-awareness/self-reflection
Communication
Confidence building
It’s vital to be self-aware when things didn’t happen as we expected either professionally or personally, instead of blaming other people, companies, ask ourselves what we did cause that…what thoughts we had to attract those situations into our lives.
How to communicate our feelings and wants in life is key to happiness, especially in Partnership. It is the art of communication! Understanding human psychology and differences between man and woman.
There are so many things I can say about confidence. What I realized is until we find our purpose and place in this world, then we can really give back to help others. It requires our confidence knowing our strength and weakness, not intimated by other people’s success, not sensitive about what other people will think of us.
With those skills and knowledge, we can conquer and achieve anything we desire!
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
I embarked on 10 years of working with coaches and mentors, attending self-growth workshops and seminars, and reading books, that will help me build the foundation, skills, and knowledge to do what I am doing today. I believe every successful person out there had tremendous journeys inward and outward. I feel grateful for whatever experience life has given to me so far.
