We recently connected with Xxmorrison and have shared our conversation below.
Xxmorrison, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
Authenticity and commitment. The more authentic you are with your true self, the more confidence you build over time. You slowly begin to believe in yourself, and not for others, but rather as a token of becoming something deep within that aligns with the true you. Judgment from others starts to mitigate the closer you get to self belief and the commitment to your craft is the cherry on top that solidifies your stance on the subject, making it almost impossible to ever give up.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
As a Michigan musician looking to release music professionally in 2020, I started my company Area X Studios as a label to release through. With my love soon spreading to everything related to the music and not just the music itself, the company quickly grew in return.
Not only releasing music as Xxmorrison through the label (new song coming soon); Area X Studios now handles all production of the music, visuals to go with the music, sponsorship deals, and a clothing line featuring a whole variety of high quality products (including album art) found at AreaXStudios.com.
For anyone looking for photo/video edits, logo design, music production, or anything related – reach out to Area X Studios or myself as we also started taking on work that helps others bring their visions to reality!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Knowing you don’t know it all is the first step to true growth. So many people offer great advice when looking in the right places, but make sure it’s the right advice from the right place. Surrounding yourself with people who reflect your goals is a great way to ensure you’re hearing the right things.
The more observant you are with your actions and surroundings, the more you’ll soak in and learn. I’ve learned a lot from observing my mistakes, or even others. The same can be said for the successes. This skill can catapult you and your brand when surrounding yourself with the right people.
Lastly, be authentic with yourself and the image you portray. Your successes hit harder when you’re being the true you, and others have an easier time seeing the vision when your love for it radiates.
What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?
Having an abundance of general knowledge opens many doors otherwise unknown, but not being above average in at least one area can make it very hard to gain opportunities due to competition.
Become an expert on any one thing, then learn as much as you can about areas you lack. Leveraging your knowledge on a given subject, then expanding into different realms is both what I have done, and what I would recommend to anyone trying to set themselves up for success and continuously progress. Get really good at one thing, earn income with that thing, then leverage and expand that knowledge into different areas that round off everything you may not have a grasp on. This in turn gives you a way to make a living with the knowledge you have accumulated, prepares you for anything that may come ahead, and allows you to constantly learn and try new things. Knowledge is power.
Taking this approach also allows for stumbling across new subjects of interest that open paths of opportunity for your future. My example being cinema. Having music and no visuals to go with it, I slowly began crawling down the rabbit hole of visual design and VFX, with it now being one of my favorite areas to work in.
