We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Yadira Rodriguez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Yadira, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
Growing up with hard working dedicated parents was my main example of prioritizing and developing good habits and a strong work ethic. That along with being taught to always be respectful, kind and trust worthy (honest) made me the person I am today. Your parents really are your first role models in life.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
A Notary public holds an important special role as an appointed public official who is usually called upon as an impartial witness when theirs legal documents that need notarization, it’s important that your clients feel comfortable with you by being professional, kind and relatable. A great thing about being a mobile Notary is that it allows me to create my own flexible schedule, I can meet a client anywhere such as a coffee shop, or the convenience of their home or office. But something I didn’t realize was that through my work as a Notary I would meet so many nice people and develop long lasting relationships with clients who have gone on to referred their family and friends to me. It’s nice to know they trust you. The appreciation texts and well wishes always make me smile.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three qualities that allow me to be successful in this business is being detailed oriented, effective communication and time flexibility. I strive to give the client a great customer experience by offering flexible meeting times and places (I come to you). I get as much information about what they need and how soon they need it, and prior to the appointment provide them with a list of what they need to have ready to proceed with the Notarization for a smooth process.
My advice to Notaries just starting out is to set up your business hours and charge accordingly, don’t under charge for your services, set a travel fee, a holiday fee, an after hours fee in addition to your regular fee. Don’t overspend on business marketing tools and website designs, when starting a new business, social media, google page and networking are great for building your business. Meeting other Notaries in your area can create networking opportunities and provide mentorship.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I’m always looking forward to working, collaborating or mentoring, guiding other Notaries to create new opportunities. Being bilingual in Spanish allows me to assist other Notaries in my area who need to refer a Spanish speaking client to me. It’s great to know other Notaries in your area to work as a team. Sometimes you may not be available for a Notarization and may provide a warm handoff to a Notary you teamed up with who is available. If you are a Notary in the San Gabriel and surrounding areas please reach out and provide your name, phone number and indicate if you speak a second language. In the Notary Society we often have meetups and seminars, maybe we can attend together. You can call or text at (626)559-1513, or follow me on instagram your_notary_public_
