Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Yaritza Cherry. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Yaritza, so happy to have you with us today and there is so much we want to ask you about. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others developed certain skills or qualities that we are struggling with can be helpful. Along those lines, we’d love to hear from you about how you developed your ability to take risk?
Honestly, becoming a risk-taker didn’t happen overnight—it was born out of growth, grit, and a deeper purpose. Working in the ICU taught me how precious and unpredictable life is. I witnessed so many moments that reminded me how quickly things can change, and that gave me a sense of urgency to live a life that feels meaningful, not just safe.
When I became a mom, everything shifted. My kids became my biggest motivation. I wanted to show them what it looks like to chase your dreams fearlessly, even when it’s scary. Transitioning from critical care into aesthetics was a leap of faith, but it was also a leap into freedom, creativity, and impact in a whole new way.
Starting my own medspa meant stepping way outside of my comfort zone, but I leaned on my training, my integrity as a nurse, and the strength I’ve gained from motherhood. I don’t see risk as failure—I see it as growth, and growth is exactly what I want my kids to see when they look at me.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m a registered nurse with a background in ICU care, but I found my true passion in aesthetics. I now own Cherry AF Medspa in San Antonio, where I combine my medical expertise with an artistic eye to help clients feel confident, refreshed, and empowered. What makes this work so special to me is the transformation I get to witness—both physically and emotionally. It’s not just about injections or skincare; it’s about creating a space where people feel seen, cared for, and confident in their own skin.
As a mom of two, my kids are my biggest motivation and the reason I show up every day with purpose and heart. I want them to see that it’s possible to chase your dreams, pivot when life calls for it, and build something of your own. Right now, I’m excited about expanding Cherry AF’s offerings—including our new Face Rehab Membership focused on long-term skin health with microneedling, peels, and personalized care. There’s so much more to come, and I’m just getting started!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, the three most impactful qualities in my journey have been resilience, trusting my instincts, and continuous learning. Resilience came from years in the ICU—being able to stay grounded under pressure taught me how to push through fear and uncertainty, which was crucial when starting my own business. Trusting my instincts has helped me make big decisions with confidence, especially in aesthetics where you need both clinical judgment and artistic intuition. And continuous learning? That’s non-negotiable. The beauty and wellness industry is always evolving, and staying current keeps me inspired and competitive.
For those just starting out, my advice is this: Don’t wait until you feel 100% ready—just start. You’ll grow into it. Take the time to invest in solid training, and don’t be afraid to ask for help or mentorship. Surround yourself with people who challenge and support you, and most importantly, stay connected to why you’re doing this. When your passion and purpose are clear, you’ll find the strength to keep going—even when it gets hard.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was show me, through their own example, what hard work and sacrifice really look like. They never had it easy, but they always found a way—and they made sure I knew that I could, too. From a young age, they pushed me to believe in myself and to pursue my dreams, even when those dreams didn’t follow the “safe” or traditional path. They taught me that nothing is handed to you—you have to work for it, stay humble, and keep going no matter what.
Their drive and dedication are a big part of who I am today. Watching them hustle day in and day out to create a better life for our family lit a fire in me. So when it came time to take a risk and step into aesthetics and entrepreneurship, I carried their work ethic and belief in me with every step. I’m so grateful for their strength, their sacrifices, and the way they always reminded me that I’m capable of doing hard things.
