We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Yelena and Justin Williams a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Yelena and Justin with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
We’ve always been genuinely passionate about food, travel, and sharing local gems. This passion is the driving force behind our work. We are excited about the opportunity to share our experiences and connect with our followers. The world of social media and content creation is ever-evolving and we’ve had to constantly learn and adapt to new trends and audience preferences. For example, we moved from blogging on our website to more Instagram reels and stories. Additionally, being a husband and wife team also has its unique advantages – we hold each other accountable and provide support when needed.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Professionally during the day, Yelena is a healthcare attorney and Justin works in tech. However, our food, travel, and lifestyle blogging is a big focus in our personal lives. Before we were bloggers, our friends and family would always ask us for travel and food recommendations. This inspired us to launch our website and start creating social media content centered around our travels and recommendations on food and activities. In 2021, we got married, so a lot of the focus that year was wedding- related. Last year, we had our daughter and now more of our content is baby and lifestyle-focused. We are excited to evolve our content to match what is currently happening in our lives. We are also still very passionate about focusing on local businesses and featuring them as much as we can.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Working in the digital influencer space requires a great deal of self-motivation. We are responsible for setting our schedules, creating content, and engaging with our audience. Justin is tech-oriented and was able to build a website for us. Yelena is very detail-oriented and task-oriented, so she helped keep our deliverables on schedule. The best advice we can give is to stay consistent and passionate, which should help bring in and keep the followers.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
Both of our parents taught us to be independent and to work hard to achieve clear goals. Our parents were self-made and, through their actions, showed us how to become successful in our professional and personal lives.
