We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Yelpy. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Yelpy below.
Yelpy, thank you so much for joining us and offering your lessons and wisdom for our readers. One of the things we most admire about you is your generosity and so we’d love if you could talk to us about where you think your generosity comes from.
I would say my generosity stems from my upbringing in Dublin, Ireland. I was fortunate to be raised in a very supportive and loving family. My parents instilled in me the importance of compassion, kindness, and always striving to be a good person. They taught me that true success isn’t just about personal achievements but more about how you treat others and contribute to the world around you.
Growing up in a musical household, I learned that music has the power to connect people and evoke emotions. This understanding deepened my desire to give back and share my music with others. Whether it’s through my songs or personal interactions, I aim to spread positivity and make a difference in people’s lives. My family and the values they imparted to me are the foundation of my generosity and my commitment to being a compassionate individual.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Well my journey as a singer-songwriter has been incredibly fulfilling and exciting. What I find most special about my work is the ability to connect with people on a deep emotional level through my music. Each song I write is a piece of my heart, and sharing that with the world is a truly unique experience.
Currently, I’m thrilled to be working on a music video and single for my song “Stranger.” This project is particularly exciting because I’m collaborating with the legendary producer TheRealJonSmith (Jonathan Smith) at Native South Studios. Jonathan’s expertise and creative vision are helping to bring “Stranger” to life in ways I couldn’t have imagined. The song itself explores themes of connection and the feeling of sometimes feeling like you’re not being seen, which I think many people can relate to.
Following “Stranger,” I’m also working on another new single titled “Little Star.” This track is very close to my heart, and I can’t wait to share it with everyone. Working at Native South Studios has been an incredible experience. The studio’s blend of classic analog equipment and modern technology creates a perfect environment for creativity and innovation.
In addition to these projects, I always strive to create music that resonates with listeners and brings a bit of light into their lives. My goal is to continue making music that not only entertains but also inspires and uplifts. I look forward to sharing more of my art with everyone soon!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I would have to say the three main qualities that are most important to me and have impacted me most are…
Resilience – The music industry can be incredibly challenging, with many ups and downs. Resilience has been crucial in helping me navigate setbacks and stay focused on my goals. My advice to those starting out is to embrace failures as learning opportunities. Keep pushing forward, stay true to your vision, and don’t let obstacles deter you from your path.
Musical Versatility – Being able to adapt and experiment with different musical styles has allowed me to grow as an artist. Whether it’s blending genres or trying new instruments, versatility keeps your music fresh and engaging. For newcomers, I recommend exploring various musical influences and not being afraid to step out of your comfort zone. This will help you develop a unique sound that sets you apart.
Emotional Intelligence – Understanding and connecting with your audience on an emotional level is key to creating impactful music. Emotional intelligence helps you write songs that resonate with listeners and convey genuine feelings. To develop this skill, focus on being present and empathetic in your interactions. Listen to your audience, understand their experiences, and let that inform your songwriting.
For those early in their journey, remember that growth takes time and effort. Surround yourself with supportive people, seek out mentors, and continuously hone your craft. Stay passionate, stay curious, and most importantly, stay true to yourself. Your unique voice is your greatest asset.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
I would say that my family has been the cornerstone of my support system. Their unwavering belief in me and my dreams has been instrumental in overcoming challenges and developing the essential skills needed for my journey. My parents, in particular, have always encouraged me to pursue my passion for music and have provided a strong moral compass that guides me in both my personal and professional life.
In addition to my family, working with talented individuals like TheRealJonSmith has been incredibly impactful. Collaborating with such a seasoned producer has not only honed my musical skills but also expanded my understanding of the industry. Jonathan’s creative insights have been invaluable in shaping my sound and artistic vision.
For those starting out, I recommend seeking out mentors or other talented artists who can provide guidance and support. Surround yourself with people who believe in you and your potential. Be open to learning from their experiences and don’t be afraid to ask for advice. Building a network of supportive and knowledgeable individuals can make a significant difference in your journey.
