Meet Yessi Sanchez

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Yessi Sanchez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Yessi, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I used to be very, very insecure, even though I’ve spent a lot of time on stage growing up. I was always a shy kid, very sensitive; very emotional, but I always used to love to perform and when I was on stage I felt like that’s where I belong. As a teenager, I started to doubt myself and my performances more, and I didn’t perform for the fun of it anymore. Everything needed to be perfect, and I carried that with me until the last couple of years.
I’ve listened to a lot of podcasts, read a lot of self help books, did yoga and the occasional meditation, and started to let go of that feeling that everything needed to BE perfect.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m an actress based in Los Angeles. I’ve won multiple international awards for my performance as Wendy in “The Radicalization of Jeff Boyd”. This year, I’m also in two feature films called “City of Love” and “Mind Over Max”, and a reboot of the show “Beyond Belief”, where I play a critical role with an important story to be told. And that’s the beauty of my profession: Acting allows me to give a voice to someone who feels like they can’t speak up about certain things. Through film we get to take people into a different world, and maybe inspire to gain a different perspective on something. I think it’s truly magical!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I’m a very empathetic person, but I’m also tough, and my stubbornness definitely impacted my journey. I think it’s important to learn how to set boundaries, and allow all emotions to be felt in a healthy manner. My stubbornness helped me to stay on track and keep going. But I also had to learn to let go.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
I used to get overwhelmed a lot, and it took me years to figure out a way to feel better. But I find what helps a lot in the long term is to work out regularly and have healthy eating habits.
