Meet Yessica Delgado

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Yessica Delgado. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Yessica below.

Hi Yessica, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

I discovered my purpose through my experiences in the flower industry. I was deeply troubled by the routine mutilation and destruction of flowers in traditional practices. This realization led me to seek a more sustainable and respectful way to showcase nature’s beauty. In 2023, we established Planta-La to provide an immersive showroom for hydroponic plants—plants cultivated in water without soil—allowing their intricate root systems to be visible and appreciated.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

At Planta-la, we’re all about reimagining how people connect with plants. We use hydroponics to create living art with their roots exposed like delicate sculptures. What makes Planta-la special is that every piece is alive and evolving. Our goal is to bring a sense of calm, wonder, and connection into homes, events, and workspaces—without the guilt of waste. Right now, we’re especially excited about launching seasonal collections inspired by holidays and the natural shifts of the year.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I’d say the three things that really carried me through were creativity, resilience, and staying true to myself. Creativity, of course, because Planta-La is all about reimagining how we experience plants—and that takes some out-of-the-box thinking. Resilience, because starting something new (especially something kind of niche!) comes with plenty of “Are you sure that’s a thing?” moments. And most importantly, staying authentic. People can feel when something is genuine, and I think that’s what draws them to the Planta-La.

For anyone just starting out: stay curious, don’t be afraid to mess up, and trust your weird little ideas. They might just be your magic.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

Yes, we’re always up for collaborating! We love working with all kinds of people who appreciate thoughtful design and living beauty. Whether you’re a boutique hotel looking to elevate your lobby, an event planner dreaming up a wedding or corporate gathering, or a retailer who wants to offer something a little different to your customers, we’d love to connect.
