We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Yilong Zhang. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Yilong below.
Yilong, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I think I’ve gotten better at overcoming imposter syndrome by facing the things that used to intimidate me.
During the process I started to realize that certain things that I used to be intimidated by doesn’t matter as much as I think.
I was worrying about too many things because I didn’t have a sense of direction.
Finding out what really matters can really boost your confidence, even if you are actually not good enough at something.
A friend once told me “everyone has to start somewhere” and that encouraged me.
I remember having the most anxiety when I was too concerned how will I be perceived by others,
But people don’t care that much! Everyone is fighting their own battles in life.
Even if they don’t perceive you well, they will forget really quick!

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Hey there! My name is Yilong and I go by the artist name Yilon.
I am a music producer and artist from China, currently based in Miami.
Coming from a background in street dance and visual arts, I draw inspiration from various genres such as
pop, hip-hop, R&B, and EDM. I play the guitar, write songs, and produce them!
I recently graduated from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami with a master’s degree in Media Scoring and
Production. And I am looking forward to building a team of creatives with similar aesthetics!
If you are interested in making high-quality songs together, creating engaging visuals, or learning music production,
check out my music and hit me up!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I would say it’s humility, persistence, and courage.
I believe it’s always important to stay humble and persistent in any career. Everybody has something we could learn from;
staying humble broadens your vision and brings you closer to other people, making collaborations easier!
Starting small and forming a daily habit of anything really helps with persistence.
To develop courage, I picture the scenario where I might miss a life-changing opportunity due to fear.
That feeling usually gives me the strength to step out of my comfort zone.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
I get overwhelmed easily. The mindset that has helped me a lot is to do whatever I can control and accept whatever happens.
Anxiety often comes from the things we can control but don’t want to do.
Prioritize and make your best effort to address a few things to solve your biggest problems.
Don’t stress about making everything go your way ~ we are all just human.
