Ying , we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

Developing confidence and self-esteem is a journey that involves self-awareness, setting realistic goals, and continuous learning. I focus on my strengths, particularly my optimism. Instead of dwelling on obstacles, I look for innovative ways to overcome challenges. I also embrace these challenges as opportunities for growth, which helps build resilience. Surrounding myself with supportive people and practicing self-compassion are essential. Every day, I walk my dog with my wonderful husband, Xiang. Having someone kind to listen to my stories is incredibly encouraging and recharging. I also continuously seek knowledge and skills that align with my passions, which reinforces my sense of purpose and self-worth. I’m an active member of a book club in The Woodlands, where I read about two books a month. Additionally, I have an unlimited membership on Udemy.com, where I’ve completed around 30 courses over the past year, focusing primarily on digital marketing and fashion design.

At MY Knitever, I combine my passion for fashion and technology to create custom-fit, 3D-knitted dresses that are both sustainable and incredibly comfortable and beautiful. What excites me most about our brand is how we use smartphone body scan technology to make each dress uniquely tailored to the individual, ensuring a perfect fit every time. This innovative approach not only makes our customers look and feel great but also reduces waste, aligning with our commitment to sustainability.

What’s special about MY Knitever is our ability to offer personalized fashion in a way that’s both cutting-edge and environmentally friendly. Every step of our process, from digital sampling to 3D knitting, is designed to minimize waste and maximize comfort.

Great news, our first collection called minimalism collection just went alive! Looking ahead, we’re excited to continue pushing the boundaries of sustainable fashion. We’re currently working on expanding our material options to include more eco-friendly yarns and planning to launch a trade-in program where customers can return their dresses to be unraveled and reused, further reducing our environmental footprint. We’re also continually adding new designs to our collection, so there’s always something fresh and exciting for our customers to discover.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, the three qualities that had the most impact on my journey were resilience, creativity, and a commitment to continuous learning.

Resilience was crucial in overcoming challenges and setbacks, allowing me to keep pushing forward despite obstacles. The challenges are real—like the saying goes, “Nobody wants your product for free in the beginning.” I laughed at that once, but now I know how true it can be. For those early in their journey, I recommend cultivating resilience by embracing failures as learning opportunities and staying focused on long-term goals, even when the path gets tough.

Creativity played a significant role in finding innovative solutions, especially in combining technology with fashion at MY Knitever. We experimented with various methods to capture customers’ measurements, from manual measurements to using different apps, and eventually embedded a body scan software in our website, which made the process so easy and our current customers are so happy about. Listening to your customers and pivoting accordingly is key to success. To develop creativity, I encourage you to experiment with new ideas, think outside the box, and surround yourself with diverse perspectives that challenge your usual way of thinking.

Continuous learning was essential in keeping up with industry trends and acquiring new skills. I never stopped educating myself, whether through books, online courses, or simply staying curious. For those starting out, I suggest dedicating time to learning regularly and staying open to new information that can enhance your expertise and adaptability. There are plenty of free opportunities out there—I’m a proud alumna of the SURE program offered by the University of Houston.

In short, resilience, creativity, and a love for learning can set you on a path to success. Embrace challenges, think creatively, and never stop growing.
