Meet Yixuan Zhao

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Yixuan Zhao a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Yixuan, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

I get my resilience from getting outside of my comfort zone.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am a fashion industry activist. Currently based in East Williamsburg, also known as “Lenape lands” before European Colonization. I graduated from Fashion Institute of Technology and now working as a stylist at Style Expo and production assistant at Rubber N’ Road.

My collection is a fantasy of feminism and culture phenomenon.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Garment construction is key to the fashion scene. Work on your sewing skills.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?

I definitely think of myself as a ground breaking fashion designer because of my unique taste. My work features elements that is innovative yet culturally influenced.
