Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Yolanda Franklin. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Yolanda, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?
My love language is caring for people. That is what I was truly designed to do. Giving with my whole heart has never been a problem for me.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
What I have been focused on is how to bring our community together. We have been brainstorming different ideas for the past few months. With so much going on in the media and in the legislative, we need to get our youth together for some fun and let them be youth, if only for the moment. We are working with some community members to do some educational learning activities on the culture of the African Community and their history and with the Indigenous Community and their history. We are also getting ready to form a children’s Gospel Choir. We will be teaching them the background of gospel music and how it does not center around just one race. So we are busy, but it’s a good busy.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back when we first started our nonprofit organization, we didn’t know anything. We did events and footed the entire bill for most of them. We didn’t know that we could charge for admission to our concerts and workshops. We missed out on so much money that could have been added to our capital account. So I would suggest getting to know the nonprofit world. Learn how and when to file taxes. Learn the world of Federal grants, and how they can help your nonprofit. Shadow a local nonprofit organization and see how their day to day runs. I was voted to sit on a board of a local nonprofit organization and I have learned so much from doing that. How to do a proper budget. How to apply for multiple grants and what is acceptable and what is not.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
We are always looking for partnerships and sponsorships. We are always looking to learn. We are looking for those who are just as eager was we are at getting their community members involved in their community. We are looking to help be that bridge between the community and their elected representatives. Anyone that is interested in working with us can contact us via email at nothinguniqueorg@gmail.com.
