We recently connected with Yomaira Garcia and have shared our conversation below.
Yomaira, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Since I was very young, I always felt that there was something greater than just existing as a person in society. This quest for purpose in life and spirituality became my constant companion. As I grew older, I found myself struggling with various religions and beliefs, trying to discover what fit with me. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t easy!
Over time, and through various experiences, I finally realized that the true purpose of life is to be happy. And here’s the key: we often think our purpose is to save the planet, save the world, or even save everyone around us. But let’s be honest: what we really need to save first is ourselves!
When we understand who we are, what we want, and where we’re going, we become more capable of caring for our surroundings and those we love. Happiness isn’t just a destination; it’s a journey that leads us to discover different purposes along the way.
By cultivating happiness within ourselves, we open up more to collaborate, help, and accept others. A happy person radiates kindness and compassion, making the world a brighter place.
If you’re looking for a great movie that captures this journey, I recommend “Soul” by Pixar. It perfectly explores the essence of living with passion and finding meaning in everyday moments. This movie inspired me and reminded me that purpose starts with happiness and appreciating the small things that make life worthwhile.
So, at the end of the day, my path to purpose has been about learning to be happy and turning every experience into an opportunity to grow, collaborate, and spread love to those around me.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My name is Yomaira Garcia, and I’m the founder of ComoTu, an e-commerce store dedicated to baby products. My journey toward this venture was born from a deep love for family and the need to adapt to a life of constant change, as my husband serves in the United States military. I reflected on how to find stable employment while frequently moving, and the solution was clear: create a business that allows me to work from home and stay close to my loved ones.
ComoTu is not just a store; it reflects the closeness and identity we share with families. As a mother of two, I understand how vital it is to capture those precious moments during a baby’s early years. This led to the idea for our milestone blankets, which stand out not only for their soft design but also because they are the only ones on the market that allow you to customize both the month and the baby’s height, providing a unique way to document their growth.
I am particularly excited about the upcoming introduction of products inspired by Montessori philosophy, which promote sensory stimulation and the holistic development of babies. I firmly believe that an environment encouraging learning and exploration is essential for children’s growth, and I want my products to contribute to that enriching experience.
Additionally, as a lawyer by profession, I have learned to value the power of community and collaboration. I am part of a folkloric dance group called Mereguetengue, a nonprofit organization where we rehearse twice a week and participate in cultural events. This connection to my roots and the community fills me with pride.
I also enjoy outdoor activities, such as Spartan races, and always make time to unwind with a good movie. My approach is inspired by MyFullness, which focuses on wholeness and well-being. This perspective motivates me to keep growing not only as a businesswoman but also as a person, contributing to the well-being of those around me.
In summary, my journey is a blend of passion, culture, and purpose. I am excited to continue developing ComoTu and helping more families create unforgettable memories while focusing on personal and community growth. Thank you for being a part of this beautiful story!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, there are three qualities that have been essential in my journey: resilience, empathy, and self-reflection.
1. Resilience: Life is full of obstacles, and I’ve learned to see them as opportunities for growth. This ability has allowed me to adapt and learn from every experience, staying strong in the face of adversity.
2. Empathy: Connecting with others has been fundamental, both personally and in my business. Empathy creates an environment of trust and support, not just for me but also for the families I serve through my brand.
3. Self-Reflection: Looking inward and questioning my thoughts has helped me understand who I am and what I want. This process has guided me in my search for purpose.
It’s also important to recognize our weaknesses. Motivation can sometimes wane, but it’s discipline that keeps us moving forward. We don’t always need to take big steps; often, small steps lead us to where we want to be. If we try to do everything at once, we risk making no progress at all. That’s why it’s vital to move at our own pace, enjoying the process and celebrating each small achievement.
For those starting their journey, I encourage you to embrace every experience, be vulnerable, and never stop seeking self-knowledge. Enjoy the journey, because focusing solely on results can make us lose sight of the wonders along the way. Happiness and purpose are found not only in the destination but also in the journey we take to get there.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When I feel overwhelmed, I often take a moment to breathe deeply. It’s amazing how a few minutes of mindful breathing can shift my perspective. I also like to break tasks down into smaller, more manageable pieces, which helps me avoid that feeling of being swamped by everything I have to do.
Sometimes, I just need to disconnect and take a moment to do nothing. Enjoying nature is another valuable resource for me. A walk outdoors or some time in a park recharges me. And, of course, dancing with my folkloric group, Mereguetengue, always brings me joy and allows me to release tension in a fun way.
The most important thing is to remember that it’s okay to ask for help and give yourself permission to take a break. Life is a journey, and learning to navigate these experiences is part of that process.
