We recently connected with Yonna Marcella and have shared our conversation below.
Yonna Marcella, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I am overcoming imposter syndrome by reminding myself that I am in the rooms, on the sets, and on the teams I am on because that’s where I’m supposed to be. I’m blessed to be surrounded professionally by tremendously successful people in both the film and music industry. I’m just as blessed in my personal life to know and be loved by equally amazing individuals. Some days they lift me, other days I lift them. But we all share a desire to be great and spread love. Us all being able to pour into each other is a reminder that we are all necessary.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am an actress living in Atlanta, Georgia. My goals right now are to elevate my skills within my craft and to expand into film and television production. This expansion of my career excites me because it allows me to exercise my creativity in a new way. It also allows me to tap into and bring together my amazing network of talented creatives. I’m working on projects now that are out of my comfort zone and I can’t wait to see how everything comes together.
I have a new movie out right now called The Broker on Tubi! I’ll also be in another movie called Jon that will be released to Tubi very soon.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three qualities that have been most useful along my journey are:
resilience, being teachable, and the ability to connect with others.
The best advice I can give is to just keep going. You’ll pick up a lot of knowledge along the way if you just keep going. Also, take breaks if you need to. But get back up!
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I’m always open to collaborate with other creatives. Right now I would really like to have more crew members in my network, everyone from wardrobe, to lights, videographers, and script supervisors. I want to know them all!
