Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Yuki Yamamura. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Yuki, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I get it by drinking, talking with friends, listening to music, and especially listening to my own music when I’m feeling down.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I moved from Japan to New York in 2018 to work as a musician in the world’s jazz capital. What inspires me most is being able to listen to and play with high-level musicians every day. I was also able to release my own album as a leader in November 2024, which became a culmination of my work to date.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I think the three elements are environment, curiosity, and concentration. If you want to change something about yourself, the most effective thing is to jump into a new world. Being interested in everything you have never experienced before will lead to growth. I think concentration is largely a dialogue with oneself. Objective perfection is important, but I think pursuing personal perfection is essential for art.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
The book is called Bass Magazine, which was released in Japan about 20 years ago. It contains a conversation between Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and jazz bass master Charlie Haden. The conversation about music and life in the book has had a huge impact on me, and it has continued to influence me to this day. The magazine is now in tatters, but I will never let it go. It is my bible.
