Meet Yvonne Wyne

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Yvonne Wyne a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Yvonne, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I’m a stay-at-home mom who found myself falling back in love with reading, something I had always loved but had put aside for a while. I knew I wanted to create book content, but I was honestly scared to put myself out there. That fear told me it was something I had to do, and once I finally did, I discovered this amazing book community. I started out on BookTok, but it didn’t feel like the right platform for me. When I moved over to Bookstagram, everything clicked. I was able to connect with other readers, build real friendships, and share my passion for horror and thrillers in a space that feels like home. Along the way, I’ve also been able to help readers discover indie books and help authors get their work out there, which has made the experience even more meaningful.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I run What’s Vonnie Reading, a Bookstagram dedicated to all things horror and thrillers, with a special focus on supporting indie authors. What makes it exciting for me is not just sharing my love of books but helping readers discover hidden gems and giving authors more visibility for their work. I create reviews, fun carousels, bookmail features, and Reels that highlight new and upcoming releases, and I love building a space where readers feel connected and inspired to pick up something new.

Through this journey, I also fell in love with marketing and graphic design. I’m teaching myself design now and working toward creating book covers, which feels like a natural extension of my passion for books and creativity.

On top of that, I’m running Hello Darkness, a horror and thriller book club that spotlights books by women authors. It has been such a joy to see readers come together to discuss stories that stick with us long after the last page. I’m excited to keep growing both my platform and the book club, with more collaborations, interviews, and creative projects coming soon.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three things that have been the most impactful for me are consistency, creativity, and community. Consistency helped me show up even on the days when I doubted myself. Creativity gave me the freedom to experiment with posts, captions, and designs until I found my style. And community has been everything, because without connecting with other readers and authors, I wouldn’t have found my purpose in this space.

My advice for anyone starting out is to focus less on perfection and more on progress. Keep posting, keep trying new ideas, and don’t be afraid to let your personality shine through. Engage with people genuinely and build connections, because that’s where the real magic happens.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
The biggest challenge I am facing right now is balancing everything. I am a stay-at-home mom, running my Bookstagram, building my book club, and teaching myself graphic design so I can move toward creating book covers. Some days it feels overwhelming, but I have learned to take it one step at a time. I set small, realistic goals each week like finishing a design lesson or scheduling content in advance, and I remind myself that progress is better than perfection. By breaking things down into manageable steps, I am able to keep moving forward without burning out.
