We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Zachary Bryant a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Zachary, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
Finding my purpose has been an evolving journey—one that hasn’t come through a single moment of clarity but through a series of experiences, challenges, and reflections that have gradually shaped who I am and what I’m called to do.
For me, purpose started with curiosity. I’ve always been drawn to understanding people—what drives them, what gives them hope, and how they navigate the complexities of life. This curiosity led me to various roles, from working in addiction recovery to spiritual direction and even helping people find homes. Each of these roles seemed different on the surface, but at their core, they were about the same thing: guiding people through transitions and helping them find a sense of belonging.
One of the pivotal moments in my journey came when I was working in a homeless shelter recovery program. I was surrounded by individuals facing some of life’s hardest battles—addiction, loss, and brokenness. Walking alongside them, I realized that purpose isn’t always about having the right answers; sometimes, it’s about being present, listening, and offering hope in practical ways. That experience showed me that I had a gift for creating spaces where people feel seen and supported.
At the same time, my personal spiritual journey has been a huge part of discovering my purpose. I’ve wrestled with questions of faith, identity, and calling—sometimes feeling lost, other times feeling like I was exactly where I needed to be. Through spiritual practices and conversations with mentors,I learned to embrace the idea that purpose isn’t a destination; it’s something we cultivate daily through intentional living.
Finding my purpose also meant facing setbacks. I’ve had moments of doubt, seasons where I questioned whether I was on the right path. But in those moments, I learned resilience. I realized that purpose isn’t always grand or flashy; sometimes, it’s found in the small, consistent acts of service and the quiet persistence of showing up.
Today, I find purpose in helping people—whether it’s guiding someone through a significant life transition, helping them find their ideal housing, or simply being a friend who listens well. I’ve learned that purpose is less about what I do and more about who I become in the process. It’s about leaning into my strengths, learning from failures, and staying open to where the journey leads next.
For anyone searching for their purpose, I’d say this: stay curious, embrace the journey, and trust that purpose often unfolds in the everyday moments where we choose to show up fully.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, three key qualities have been most impactful in my journey: empathy, adaptability, and resourcefulness. Each of these has played a critical role in shaping my approach to helping clients and growing professionally.
1. Empathy
Understanding people—really understanding them—has been at the core of everything I do. Whether it’s helping someone find an apartment that fits their unique needs or working with a realtor to support their clients, empathy allows me to connect on a deeper level and offer solutions that genuinely meet their needs.
Advice:
For those early in their journey, developing empathy starts with listening—truly listening. Ask questions that go beyond surface-level needs, and practice putting yourself in someone else’s shoes. Read widely, engage in diverse conversations, and always approach people with a mindset of service rather than transaction.
2. Adaptability
The real estate market, especially in a fast-growing city like Nashville, is constantly evolving. Learning to pivot quickly, embrace new trends, and adjust to clients’ changing needs has been crucial in staying ahead and providing top-tier service.
Advice:
To build adaptability, stay curious and open-minded. Be willing to learn from unexpected situations and embrace change as an opportunity rather than a setback. Follow industry trends, seek mentorship from those with experience, and always have a mindset of continuous improvement.
3. Resourcefulness
Apartment hunting can be overwhelming, and clients rely on me to simplify the process and present them with the best options. Being resourceful—knowing where to look, who to ask, and how to problem-solve efficiently—has been a game-changer.
Advice:
Hone your resourcefulness by becoming an expert in your field. Take the time to learn the ins and outs of your industry, build a strong network, and don’t be afraid to think outside the box when challenges arise. Utilize technology, ask for help when needed, and always be on the lookout for new ways to enhance your skills.
Ultimately, my advice to anyone starting their journey is to focus on building relationships, staying adaptable, and never stopping the learning process. Success comes from a combination of skill and heart—when you genuinely care about what you do and the people you serve, everything else falls into place.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
One book that has played a significant role in my development is Atomic Habits by James Clear. Its insights on how small, consistent actions can lead to significant long-term changes have had a profound impact on both my personal and professional life. The book emphasizes the idea that success isn’t about setting massive goals but about building systems that support continuous improvement.
Here are a few of the most valuable takeaways that have stuck with me:
1. “You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.”
This principle shifted my perspective on goal-setting. Instead of focusing solely on outcomes, I learned the importance of creating systems that make success inevitable. Whether it’s in apartment finding, fitness, or personal growth, having a clear process in place ensures consistent progress.
Impact: I’ve applied this to my work by developing structured processes for researching apartments, following up with clients, and refining how I guide them through their search. It’s helped me stay organized and efficient without feeling overwhelmed.
2. The Power of Identity-Based Habits
Clear explains that true behavior change starts with identity—who we believe we are. Instead of saying, “I want to get in shape,” shifting to “I am someone who prioritizes health” makes the habit stick more naturally.
Impact: This concept has influenced how I approach my work. I don’t just think of myself as someone who helps people find apartments; I see myself as a trusted guide who makes the process stress-free and enjoyable. This mindset shift motivates me to go the extra mile for my clients.
3. The 1% Rule: Tiny Changes, Remarkable Results
One of the book’s most encouraging ideas is that improving by just 1% each day can lead to massive results over time. It’s a reminder that small actions, compounded consistently, can create significant transformation.
Impact: Whether it’s refining my knowledge of the Nashville rental market or improving my communication skills, I’ve learned to embrace gradual improvement rather than feeling pressure to make big leaps overnight. It’s helped me stay consistent and patient with my growth.
4. “Environment is the invisible hand that shapes behavior.”
Our surroundings play a huge role in our habits, and Clear emphasizes that shaping your environment to make good habits easier and bad habits harder is a game-changer.
Impact: I’ve applied this by creating an environment that supports my productivity—organizing my workspace to minimize distractions, using tools that streamline my workflow, and building habits that align with my goals.
Final Thought:
Atomic Habits has reinforced that success isn’t about sudden breakthroughs but about mastering the small, daily disciplines that lead to meaningful progress. Whether it’s helping clients find the right apartment, staying on top of industry trends, or working on personal goals, the book’s principles have helped me stay consistent, focused, and intentional.
