We were lucky to catch up with Zack Whyel recently and have shared our conversation below.
Zack , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from decades of hard work and having no choice but to stay the course and be strong. Adversity helps shape us to become the people we are meant to be. Sometimes it feels like hard times are there to hurt us, but they are there to make us even better people. Keep that in mind as you undergo any hardships to help see you through it.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m an Actor/Producer from Charlotte, NC that lives in ATL. I’ve been featured in hit TV Shows and Movies. I recently produced and starred in my first feature film “Skateshop” which is released internationally on Tubi, Prime Video, Youtube Movies, Google Play, and Roku. We are in pre-production for the sequel now. I’m working on creating films and characters that stand the test of time and help bring people together!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three qualities that were most impactful in my journey have been patience, resilience, and persistence. Without these three qualities, I doubt I would have lasted very long on my journey. Most of these were built over time, but it was the hardships that I faced along that way that helped shape and strengthen them.
A big tip for any artist on their creative journey is to understand business. This also helped me tremendously along the way. Any successful artist also has an understanding of the business of their art.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
Whenever you feel overwhelmed it’s always important to take a step back. Re-assess what you’re doing and why you’re doing it. There are many times that I’ve had to step back or take some time off to re-align my mindset to what’s important and where I’m going. I’ve even had to re-adjust and slightly pivot in my career to continue to stay on a forward trajectory. Having a life outside of your pursuits is always an important thing as well. Taking time in nature, doing a hobby, or spending time with friends and loved ones can greatly help your mindset to get back on track to your goals.
Always keep things simple and be open to change!
