We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Zeeda Michele Veal a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Zeeda Michele , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I’ve walked through a very tough life. My father was murdered when I was 4 years old. My mom was now a single mom of 8 me being the youngest girl … number 7 . I was molested 3 times by the age of 9. Pregnant at 16 , dropped out of high school. Smuggling drugs from state to state while pregnant with my second child at 21 years old . I was the drug dealers girlfriend . Moving forward In an a physical , emotional , verbal abusive relationship by 23 , That led to me being suicidal then pregnant with my abusers baby and incarcerated. I had no choice in this life but to be resilient , Thankful ! I am that God equipped me for it!
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a women’s empowerment coach, event host , podcaster , motivational speaker, mom, wife and ya ya which is a Code word for grandma lol I walked through a very difficult life , without guidance are professional help and I had to figure out how to break a cycle that has plagued my family for years. Poverty, depression and incarceration! I have always been a magnet for an to hurting women! With that being said I’ve written 3 books ! From Pain to power ! “PowHerful “ and Heal out Loud… Louder ! All books geared towards becoming the best version of who God created you to be ! I also have faith based apparel and jewelry. I have burning Desire to share my story to the world in hopes that healing will come forth to each soul who hears it ! My organization is called Making Power Moves LLC ! Based on Ephesians 3:20 where it talks about the Power God placed in us and how our faith produces power ! What’s means my movement special is MPM doesn’t coast on safe ! I’m “ HOT “HONEST OPEN and TRANSPARENT! That’s not my saying I borrowed it lol … but it’s so relative to who I am !
You will never see me doing ordinary typical , trending things ! My events are held on yachts or there Galas or something to big for me to produce on my own , or events that make women feel, think and act ! Spring into ACT-ion! My organization is a for profit, therefore I don’t have funding like most people or company’s but God always comes through. NY NEXT EVENT IS CALLED GLAMPING IN THE SPIRIT” coming soon in September! My newest line of apparel and jewelry “ Aesthetically Speaking “ is driven on making a statement in fashion without saying a word !
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Number 1 be honest with God first and then yourself ! If you cant put lipstick on a pig and call it a princess ? Its not a princess ! It’s a pig with lipstick on. We hide behind appearances and images so much we lose our identity. Be truthful! Remember the truth will make you FREE!
2. Kill the pride ! After pride goes the fall. Don’t be so high up you can’t reach down to help your sister up. And when you help her up don’t make an announcement, keep ya arrogant mouth closed !
3. Whatever you do ! Do it in Love! Love covers the multitude of sins and after seek God in all you do! Because he’s the multiplying factor in your life!
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
The biggest area of my growth is learning that the storms, the rain , the trials and tribulations have not come to destroy me, but they’ve come to tear down and rebuild those things that were not fruitful to my Existence. I learned to release fear and embrace life’s challenges with the grace poise and strength of God ! I’ve learned that I have to be not on consistent but I needed to be in pursuit of God because in him I breath and move and have my being! Sounds cliche huh? But it’s not ! It’s fact . I’ve learned when I get out of Gods way… he does that thing that he does so well! So when life started lifing Gods starts God-ing ! I borrowed that one too lol
