We were lucky to catch up with Zen Sonora recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Zen , we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Building my confidence has been a deeply personal journey. I spent a lot of time looking inward—learning to love and understand myself on a deeper level. In a world that often emphasizes one ideal look, it’s easy to forget that there’s power in embracing your unique beauty. I’ve come to know my body, what works for me, and that self-awareness has led to incredible results
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Although I’m a model, I’m also a certified holistic healer. My goal is to create in a way that promotes wellness—helping others elevate mentally, physically, and spiritually. In addition to that, I design handmade crystal jewelry and create custom Grillz, blending creativity with intention.
I’m also a proud mother to a beautiful son, and much of what I do is inspired by him. I want him to see his mother as one of the greats—someone who followed her purpose and led with passion.
In 2024, I had the honor of walking in LA Fashion Week, which was a major milestone. This year, however, I’ve felt more called to work behind the scenes—supporting and uplifting others in their own journeys.
Recently, I was invited by Ohio Model United to serve as a model coach for their upcoming workshop, where I’ll be mentoring aspiring models from our area. I’ll be sharing insights on posing techniques, runway skills, and portfolio development to help them grow confidently in the industry.
I’m also excited to announce an upcoming collaboration with The Crown’d Coollection for a trip to Jamaica. I’m truly looking forward to what’s in store next—it’s only the beginning!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
First and foremost, remember that everyone’s journey is unique—what works for one person may not be right for you. Move at your own pace and trust that with time, consistency, and determination, you’ll get exactly where you’re meant to be.
One of the most powerful things you can do is truly get to know yourself. That self-awareness creates a strong foundation and helps you stay grounded, no matter what others are doing or saying. Along the way, you’ll discover things you love—and maybe some things you don’t—and that’s all part of the growth process.
Don’t be afraid to learn from others. Ask questions, seek guidance, and stay open. Everyone starts somewhere. Take what resonates with you and add your own unique style and perspective. Once you build on that foundation, the possibilities are endless. The sky really is the limit.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
Without a doubt, my parents have been some of the most powerful and inspiring role models in my life. From an early age, they taught me that quitting simply isn’t an option. Watching them navigate different stages of life gave me valuable lessons in resilience, determination, and self-belief.
My father, in many ways, reminds me of a wizard—his wisdom is so profound, it’s hard to put into words. He’s always meant business and has been a constant pillar of support in everything I pursue. His guidance taught me to move with intention, make thoughtful decisions, and carry knowledge with me that extends far beyond the moment.
My mother is the definition of strength and independence. A true go-getter, she instilled confidence in me by sharing the gems she’d learned about womanhood. She’s a Taurus—so you know she’s fiercely determined! She also played a big role in shaping my personal style. While my style is uniquely mine, it’s definitely influenced by her flair and creativity.
I’ve also been blessed with a wonderful bonus mom, who fits seamlessly into our family. She’s my crafty, book-loving “encyclopedia” — always full of helpful information about education, life hacks, and everything in between. She brings such a nurturing and insightful presence into my life.
All three of them have been instrumental in helping me raise my son. I truly couldn’t have reached many of these accomplishments without their love, support, and guidance. I’m so grateful to be surrounded by such a strong foundation
