Meet Zenobia Jackson

We recently connected with Zenobia Jackson and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Zenobia, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
As a little girl, I have always loved people. It wasn’t just those in my family or those I knew, it was everyone I would meet. It bothered my mother when I would go up to a stranger and hug them or share my snack with a child on the playground. I understand now that my mother was just trying to protect my innocence. I remember one moment in my life as clear and vivid as it is today. Every Saturday morning, we would go uptown (I lived in a very small town) to get food for Sunday dinner. There was this homeless drunk man always sitting outside our little country store. I would always pretend like I wanted a bag of chips or a candy bar, but in actuality, it was for him.

As my mother would load the groceries into her car I would run to give him his snack and a big hug. Fast forward thirty-plus years later and a whole lot of voices, and identity check moments, I have finally arrived back to having a child-like obedience. Just like all of us, I grew up and out of the mindset of a child, and in many ways it was good. Going off to college, meeting new people, traveling, getting married, and having children of my own caused me to grow up fast! Unfortunately, growing up overshadowed my purpose in this life.

I was so focused on what I thought was best and what I wanted that there was no room for what Christ wanted for me. I believe He left that memory of Saturday mornings in my mind as a mental clip of how he created me and how I am to move throughout this earth while I am here. Even as an adult, I have a genuine concern and care for people, but again my needs would override my service to them. That childlike obedience to God was no longer important. It was all about what I could see, do, and have in my own strength. Therefore, my true purpose was inactive for years.

The turning point for me was when I quit my job as an educator and went into coaching. I believed my intellect and networking savviness were enough. Yep! They were the things that would get me ahead in this life. I became a member of Toastmasters, received my DTM, starting receiving speaking engagements and clients. Everything was going well until it was not. After two years in my coaching business, I threw in the towel. I became frustrated because everything I thought I was supposed to be doing was not bringing me the success I wanted.

Sitting on my couch at home talking to God (more so complaining to God) I asked Him this question. “God if you called me to help your people where are they?” In the sternest, yet loving voice, He said, “You must serve my people with a pure heart!” I was crushed, and sad, but also grateful. You see I was walking in my purpose of teaching and training God’s people who they are in Him. I was in my purpose of encouraging and edifying the body of Christ, but the most important thing was missing… doing it all in His Love.

I cried it seemed for hours. Where did little Zee go? How could I ever get back to having childlike obedience and love for those God had called me to serve? It was simple. I acknowledge my sins and shortcomings. I repented and asked for forgiveness, and today I am reminded daily of why I am here. My purpose has always been in God. I am a God-sent teacher and Pastor. It doesn’t matter what room He places me in, my heart posture and service is to always bring clarity to His people of their life’s purpose by faith through His word.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Zenobia Jackson Coaching coaches women on understanding their God-given purpose and identity in the Kingdom of God. What is so special about my coaching is allowing the Holy Spirit to take charge of the conversation. I do more listening than anything. I believe that is what coaching should be about. It is about listening to your client’s heart and then listening to the heart of God for your client. In the world’s system of coaching, it’s about this package or this plan, however, Zenobia Jackson Coaching only has one plan and it’s God’s plan for my client.

ZJ Coaching continues to evolve. Over the past 6 months, my husband and I have birthed Anthony and Zenobia Ministries. He and I have teamed up to empower couples to revitalize their unions by embracing transformation through Christ’s love. We were married at the age of nineteen and twenty with a bouncing baby boy on the way. During those years, we made so many mistakes. We see couples today making those same mistakes, so we provide not only pre-martial counseling but also coaching for those who want to have a love that lasts for a lifetime.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three qualities that helped me to be impactful on my journey were my willingness to learn what I did not know, not being afraid to speak up and ask questions no matter how unintelligent it sounded to others, and a heart to please God.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
Grace Over Grind by Shae Bynes transformed how I now show up as a Christian Life Coach and a woman of God. Here are three gems that revolutionized my life.

1. Take my thoughts through the filter. Do my thoughts reflect God’s thoughts?

2. Anxiety is NOT a fruit of the spirit and it is NOT my portion.

3. Live my life with mercy and truth according to Proverbs 3:4
Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. 4 Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.

This means allowing these qualities to become the attitude of my heart and expressing them through my actions to the people around me including those in the marketplaces.
