Meet Zibby Owens

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Zibby Owens a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Zibby, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

I lost a lot of people who were close to me in my early twenties which really cemented the notion that life is short. I know I only have a limited time here to make a difference, so that’s what I try to do every day!

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I opened Zibby’s Bookshop with a couple women partners (Sherri Puzey and Diana Tramontano) over a year ago to give the Santa Monica community a place to congregate, connect, and share their love of books. We host frequent author events and a book club, and organize our shelves by emotion and interest instead of just alphabetically by genre. Our shop is about discovery of titles! We like promoting all types of authors and stories. It’s part of Zibby Media which has its own boutique publishing arm, my podcast Moms Don’t Have Time to Read Books, reading retreats, a book club, and more!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

It’s always hard finding readers and getting them to pay attention to an event, a book, or anything!! We’re trying creative marketing techniques, word of mouth, brand partnerships, and more.
