Meet Zipporah Aka: The Mistress Of Melody

We were lucky to catch up with Zipporah Aka: The Mistress Of Melody recently and have shared our conversation below.

Zipporah AKA: The Mistress of Melody, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

I learned a lot about what it means to be resilient from my mom. My mom has been through a lot of unfortunate and unexpected situations, that have affected her health & life in significant ways. She’s battled an illness that almost took her life, another virus that rendered her blind in her early twenties, and being a single mother of two children. Through all of those adversities, I never had to go without anything that I needed, and she made things happen for herself and us. Her life didn’t stop when it should’ve, and because of that, I’ve grown to understand that as long as you have breath in your body, you can keep going. Being a creative is a lot like that, having to keep the motivation, discipline, and passion to work towards building your platform, and creating music that moves people. It’s not easy being a self made artist, everything you want to happen is something you have to put into motion, or else it won’t get done. It’s can be unpredictable when you’re first starting out, and exhausting but when you know why you’re in it, you learn it’s worth the hustle. I had to reconfigure my outlook on my artistry and my outlook on life in general to match my “why”. I have a purpose and I know part of that is to be a reminder to others through music. My mom always poured into me that I have a gift that’s meant to be shared, and to stop at nothing. If she can successfully raise children, neither of us ever had to worry about eating, clothing, or shelter because she always found a way, then so can I.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am an artist, more specifically I think of myself as a musical alchemist. The reason I describe myself as such is because alchemy is about transforming the impurities of an element into its purest/most original state, and that’s what I aim to do with my artistry. It’s exciting to be able to bring the immaterial into the world and share it, hearing a unique sound in my head and creating it in real time, then watching others as they experience it. As a creative, I have the ability to bring other people into whatever mini world I want, even if it’s just temporary, and show them how beautiful this existence is. I make people feel, I remind people to be present, I command the stage and the room. That to me is also reminding them to do the same when they’re walking in the purpose that God created them for, at least that’s a seed I hope is planted in the experience.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Three things that I think have been most impactful to my journey so far are: Knowledge of self, discipline, and God.

My advice to beginner artists:
I say those three things because it’s one thing to know who you are, but when you get into the music industry or want to, it’s more important to know who you are not. It’s easy to get caught up in “falling in line” to make yourself more “marketable” to the masses, or to go along to get along with people who can potentially further your career faster. Not every opportunity/platform is one that will align with your truest self or purpose.
If you want to exceed mediocrity, you must have discipline. For the days that you’re exhausted, frustrated, things aren’t going well, you have a creative pause or block, discipline will not only sustain you, but it’s the only thing that requires you to become better and exceeds your temporary emotions and circumstances.
Last but not least, God above all. The industry, and this world is a very dangerous but beautiful place to exist in. The industry has a mind of its own, and it’s easy to find yourself accepting whatever is presented before you, but with God leading you, there’s discernment, and revelation on what is and isn’t for you. You don’t always need to worry yourself with how, but keep your anchor.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I am absolutely open to collaborating with others, whether they be fellow artists, producers, people who are looking for artists to perform at their venue and/or events and more.
