Meet Ziyi Zhang

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ziyi Zhang. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Ziyi, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?

I keep my creativity alive through constant exploration of new technologies and cross-disciplinary collaboration. Whether it’s virtual production, AI-generated art, or interactive installations with real-time rendering, I stay curious and experimental with emerging media. My work is deeply inspired by humanistic and social issues, often responding to real-world challenges with poetic and dreamlike visual language that balances emotion and reason to evoke resonance in the audience. Collaborating with brands, curators, and fellow artists allows me to continuously break the boundaries of medium and culture, turning each project into a new source of inspiration. For me, creativity isn’t just a moment of spark—it’s the result of ongoing practice, reflection, and passion.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Ziyi Zhang is a new media artist based in New York City. whose practice bridges the realms of art and technology. Since 2021, she has actively explored the creative industry with a spirit of curiosity, collaboration, and innovation. She holds a BFA in Design Art (Interaction Design) from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and is currently pursuing an MPS in Virtual Production at NYU Tisch School of the Arts.

Rooted in a solid foundation of both artistic sensibility and technical expertise, Zhang’s work fuses lyrical, poetic expression with emerging media such as real-time rendering, artificial intelligence, and immersive interaction. Her creations explore the complexities of humanity, societal structures, and global concerns—often balancing emotional depth with conceptual clarity.

From intimate emotions to expansive narratives, Zhang aims to transcend the boundaries of medium and culture. Her works have been exhibited internationally across China, Singapore, the United States, and Europe. In 2023, her projects were showcased at the prestigious Ars Electronica Festival in Linz, Austria, and at Singapore’s landmark building, Ten Square. In 2025, Her is showcased at New York Design Week.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Three of the most impactful elements in my journey have been creative thinking, technological fluency, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Creativity lies at the heart of everything I do—it shapes how I visualize abstract concepts, build immersive experiences, and challenge conventional narratives. Equally essential is my relationship with technology. From mastering 3D rendering in Unreal Engine to exploring AI and sensor-based interactions, I see technology not as the goal, but as a powerful medium to serve ideas and deepen storytelling. Yet none of this would be truly meaningful without collaboration. Working with engineers, sound designers, producers and curators has shown me that the most powerful works often emerge from dialogue—where diverse perspectives intersect to create something greater than any individual voice.

I’d suggest staying open and fearless. Don’t limit yourself to one tool or definition of success. Explore widely, collaborate often, and invest time in understanding both the craft and the ideas behind your work. Growth happens when you combine skill with perspective—and keep creating even when you’re unsure.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I’m particularly interested in connecting with creators, technologists, and institutions who are passionate about blending art, technology, and social inquiry. I welcome collaborators with expertise in areas such as AI, Unreal Engine, interactive installations, sound design, or sensor-based systems—individuals who are excited to push creative boundaries through interdisciplinary approaches. I’m also eager to partner with brands, curators, and cultural institutions to develop immersive digital experiences, tech-driven exhibitions, and virtual production projects that resonate with broader audiences.
